They make legs look slimmer because of the optical illusion you get from a curved grid - they're darker at the edges of your legs and more sheer at the center. Plus, they don't have the same black hole effect as truly opaque tights. I have to wear black tights in dance competitions (Irish step - kids and teens have long bare legs, but over 18, you have to wear black tights for modesty!) and even though we're supposed to wear truly opaque dance tights, I always try to get some that are less opaque to show off my leg muscles! Period. 1138049@https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/ Excuse my goofy picture, but I had to get the tights right.  That's the important bit.   Last time I posted a WIW with my All Saints Drina dress, Angie mentioned I should try it with my leopard calf-hair booties.  I could not figure out what hosiery to wear with it, though. I would normally go for bare legs or micro fishnets in nude, but not right now. Brrrr!  My black tights seemed too opaque.  Charcoal didn't seem right either.  Nothing was working.  Finally I emailed Angie and she suggested sheer black. Okay. But...I am not a fan of extremely sheer black hose for the day at work.  Then a couple days ago it hit me: black tights that were on the sheer end, not my standard opaque.  So, a nominal investment in H & M tights ($5) and I am good to go.  I think these bridge the gap perfectly.  And can I just say that sized up a size they have a surprisingly not as binding as most top? Hooray! Cheers all around.
