Funny--I turned against most patterns this year. I do like stripes as long as they aren't too high contrast and of course I love the leopard prints, as long as they are MY leopard prints.

I love some of the stripes Lisa shows. Black or navy and white are too strong for me, but camel with any color is fabulous. Thanks for sharing them!

Yes Carol, we seem to be on the same page with stripes. I love that skirt.......very cool.

It is a good lesson Jenni - and one I need to be mindful of myself. I am mostly not a duplicator, yet I have duplicated a dress in two colours, and now two pairs of sneakers by the same brand. And I have red and navy trousers that are the same as well. I will check in to see how it all goes - the navy trousers are well over 30 wears and the red have hit 20 this year alone so I am confident there that duplication was a good move. The shoes will be fine but the dresses may split wears.

We definitely circle back to prints or patterns we have liked in the past, I agree. Both your green tops are very pretty! I met my best friend the other day near where she has shifted to, as there is a bra outlet store there and I needed new ones. We went into 2 thrift stores and one other fashion outlet, I noticed how I am always drawn to the same sort of thing! Learning this has really helped me buy less “clone clothing”- “different but not really”. So I only bought the bras, nothing else!

I am also a graphic person--stripes, checks, color blocking. I have to watch how much black and white pattern I put in my wardrobe. I am not a tonal person, either.

For many years, I loved nothing more than a mariniere, and now I shy away from that look. But like you, I am drawn to things a little different--like your striped tee with the great collar detail. Or a striped blazer, or I did get a striped maxi skirt...

Thanks Janet and Brooklyn.

Janet- stripes can be good to pattern mix - hopeful I can do some of that. And yes of course Brooklyn, it is the visit to Paris!! Subconsciously taking myself back there....

It's one of those things with style, that you can find yourself circling back to things that appeal. I have a white top with a green traced pattern on it, and I realised I had a very similar patterned top in 2007-8 (it is not super clear in this photo)

This photo predates YLF, and was during a stage when I coloured my hair darker and in a more brunette way. I like it!

Love the stripe treatment on that dress. I like stripes and have a small collection — all tops/shirts/sweaters. Mostly black and white, or blue. One green and white. I’m currently a bit off of patterns in general, so being careful before I add any others. I love a good low-contrast pinstripe trouser but haven’t found any that work for me.

I do like how stripes pattern-mix nicely with a lot of other prints. I see lots of possibilities in your capsule.

Thanks all. I do like a bit more contrast in a stripe and seem to like ones with white or ideally soft white in it. I can see Sharan why a more muted stripe would appeal to you more, as our palettes are quite different.

Lisa - I like the gingham print - I almost exclusively wear it to work with navy pants, blue jeans, cream jeans or my rusty red pants.

JAileen - I know the top is plaid but plaid is kind of stripes both horizontal and vertical!! Or that's how I see it haha.

And thanks Jenni, Karie, Angie, Suz, Robin, Lyn, Lise and Jaime. I will try and get some WIW over the next couple of weeks. And fingers crossed for the sneakers being comfortable.....

These are great additions, Sal. You have a good feel for which stripes work for you in particular.

The stripes I like to wear are just the opposite of yours. I only like them when I can find versions that aren't too high contrast. I'm finding myself drawn to stripes again, too. I like to wear them with other patterns.

These look perfect for you , Sally. That gingham effect top is really interesting, and will look great with the sneakers . Stripes are classics, and so is the way you dress :). I have a brown/navy stripe top sitting in a virtual shopping cart from a Cdn maker and while it's not a need, it's a bit of a want!

I always loved stripes-wore them a lot and have had them in almost each type of clothing item, including blazers and summer pants (tops, skirts&dresses are most common for me in this pattern) but somehow I forgot to wear them that much these past 2 or 3 seasons. It can be that I much preffered tonal with subtle shade differences or column of color outfits lately. But this year I digged out an off white&navy subtle stripe tee to wear to my cream wide leg jeans and olive military jacket for Spring an Fall-which I liked an wore several times again.
Your new striped items are all great, not common- always with a twist-checkered top is especially fab! Hope you'll have fun with stripes again!

I like the new top/ sweatshirt, too and can see that coming in really handy on beach evenings as well as in the early autumn.

Interesting how our feeling for patterns comes and goes at times. For me stripes are a constant, as are tartans...but florals of various kinds appeal sometimes and then not at others.

Inadvertently, I seem have adopted stripes again. I wore a lot of stripes for many years, but over recent years had not added many new ones in, perhaps I overdosed. Well that has changed in 2025, and now I have to be careful to call a halt on the stripey pieces.

I have added the brown long sleeve tee (almost a sweatshirt) to wear over summer at the beach on cooler days, or evenings. It will be good for the sort of casual summer living we do and into autumn as well. I think it will work well with blue and cream jeans in particular. This is a wardrobe hole I have been keen to fill.

I also added the striped tee (it is black and white, but could read navy and white) as a return to a fitted style of tee. I like it but after one wash (warm not hot) it seems to have shrunk in length so I need to stretch it out again. It is NZ made (as is the first long sleeve top) so that means they are not inexpensive. I am keen to support these retailers.

I had added the two striped dresses previously - one at the "Op Shop" and one in Paris

Whilst not stripes, but they kind of read that way, in the Black Friday sales I picked up the navy and cream Goodsole sneakers. They are yet to arrive but I am familiar with the brand after adding a yellow pair earlier in the year. And the plaid navy and cream top is also two sets of stripes, one horizontal and one vertical.

Why the return to the stripe? I am really enjoying contrast right now, especially white/cream and another colour. I have experimented with tonal looks, and they don't feel like me. We will see how it all goes, I have had good wear out of the existing pieces already so fingers crossed....I have to be careful as I do like long lines and stripes can read more gamine than I am, but they do feel as though go with my sporty natural style as well.
