Fair enough it goes back, it was interesting to me that lyn67, and myself, and now Laurie as well, all thought the same thing.
I read the most fabulous children’s book once, by Australian author Emily Rodda, called “Something Special”, about how certain clothes just embody a person. This is many years ago, well before YLF and before much understanding of my personal style. I must have read it in the 90s because I know when Mum died in 1999 I thought of it when choosing how to dress her, I wanted her to be in a “special”. Somehow that combination was more “you” to us than the others.

Jenni :) I *think*it's because it's more relaxed and less full-on preppy, there's juxtaposition between the texture and formality of the denim and the shiny skirt, and also denim blue is one of my best colours. The others were a little "soft" for me and/or too pure prep. But it's going back anyway!

Exactly what I thought lyn67! Great minds and all that... I thought it looked way more “Suz” than with the lilac or white tops. As often happens though, I don’t understand why. Not my day job is my excuse

Suz - I heard a mom at my daughter's baseball game yesterday saying that she took her J Crew returns in store and they still deducted $15 shipping to ship them back to the warehouse! That has never happened to me but she saI'd it was a new policy (maybe because they shut down so many of their stores in Canada?) Keep us posted....

These are great suggestions -- thank you! I'll check out Topshop, Judi Rosen, Frame, etc.

And maybe Citizens will come out with a style that suits this year. They're my go-to brand because they always fit me well.

Fashintern, yes, that is the J. Crew top. Colours can be deceiving in online pics!

Jenni -- yes, I figure it's good to show that we all strike out. There is nothing technically "wrong" with these pieces but they're not special enough to keep.

Thanks Bennett and all!

love the plaid midi, but i can see why you don't love it, its very NE prep, in fact my 1st thought was that skirt reminds me of Mrs Mallet who was a neighbor from my childhoodand the very defination of preppy...
and the quest for the elusive boyfriend/slouchy highrise skinnyish jean....i have bought and returned 6 pairs....i love my Levi 501 but they are distressed so not appropriate for work, i've tried other 501s but they don't fit the same ANNOYING! but i ended up with the RE/Done pair in finds, probably a little more slouch then what you are looking for...it might be worth trying the Topshop editor

The tops you kept are clearly the right ones to keep. Too bad you can't size up from the white top. I just wrote on Lisa's thread that slim boyfriend jeans are my high waisted. As it happens I have a pair of the Frame Le Garcon (consignment store find). I like them a lot but they are actually a bit big in the waist for me and would size down if that were an option. Hiked up bf jeans are where I'm at.

I really like the second pair of jeans on you, but I totally get it about the distressing. That side view makes you look so long and lean! I take a pass on a lot of jeans that have the exact silhouette I am attracted to, but
too much 'positioned' fading and whiskering, plus always with the damn holes!!!!!

Thanks, all. Cardiff Girl, luckily in this case, the returns are not too bad -- I don't have to mail them back but can deliver them to a store. Yes, it's a trip downtown, but that's about half an hour away only.

Re jeans...I will check out Jag and Pilcro and Madewell. Brooklyn, thank you for the visual -- helpful! I'll check out the BR ones, too -- thanks Roxanna. At minimum they might work as a stopgap -- not that I am in dire need. I tend to wear my white jeans more in summer anyway.

Lisa, the second jeans are good, just not good enough. I know I won't reach for them. I bought a pair of AG jeans at Anthro mid-winter and ugh ugh ugh. They seemed great at first, but they bag out something awful. These J. Crew ones wouldn't do that (not as much stretch) but something about the fit is a bit off for me.

I don't think we can get Peruvian Connection or Bedhead. But I will check it out!

Thanks Bijou and Lucy and Lisa P and Angie and all in confirming the tops. They will work into rotation easily and the shirt won't date.

For jeans, do you have access to Jag Jeans - they are an Australian brand but I’ve seen them in the US. Not sure about Canada though .
I bought some high waisted straights that are really fab (and not distressed!). Looking online I think they are these ones https://www.jag.com.au/bianca-.....00526.html.
I found they bag out after two or three wears but I just wash them and they are fine . They are not too expensive so I don’t mind washing them more often .

I LOVE the silk shirt on you, absolutely stunning and so very you. I have to love jeans to wear them, so if these are not love, then pass.

Echo Lisa's comments above re skirt and jeans. LOVE the silk blouse.

I bought the BR high rise medium wash cropped straight legs that were Angie's picks a couple of months ago and I am really actually loving the denim - not too stretchy but hugs the body and keeps its shape.

As for skinnies/slim jeans that have higher rises? It seems to be all about the brand Mother these days. Expensive, but really nice looking jeans.

Hmm. I agree with you about keeping the little denim top : it's super cute. But I want you to keep the second pair of jeans; they are uber-flattering. I'm not in love with the skirt - I think you are wise to return it. It's pretty summery and although in wild-card territory, it doesn't seem quite you.nn

Good job listening to your feelings. You and Mr. Suz crack me up...

I LOVE the silhouette of the skirt - especially with the jacket and sneaks. Pretty, chic, flattering. But get that the print isn’t quite right for you. Patterns are emotive. You either love it or you don’t. You don’t. Next.

The tops you’re keeping - one classic and one classic-esque. Makes sense when the trends aren’t our friends. KILLER tops for your style. Score.

The jeans are good, but not good enough! Good job being fussy.

Have you tried Pilcro and Madewell jeans? Maybe we can look see in store on the 15th?

Pjs......have you tried Bed Head?
