I like Falke Soft Merino and Falke Family cotton crew socks.
They do stay up for me and I have the problem with socks bunching under my foot very often

I got some thin knee highs at $ tree, that stayed up....but same issue :/ Shorter socks I just fold instead of pulling them up. They're covered by the pants anyway!

I like to wear knee high nylons for warmth on cool days but they do not stay up but bag around the ankles. I have had some luck with nonpadded Smart Wool socks and Hue. Eyeball them to see if the shaft looks narrow enough.

I have a long, narrow foot with no padding, and my go-to socks are Smart Wool’s padded boot socks. The extra padding in the socks protects my heels, provides warmth (I run cold), and helps fill out the width of the boot, since most boots are too wide for my foot. Sometimes, I don’t even need to double up on insoles if I’m wearing the padded socks.

You won’t get the Bombas strangulation effect with these socks, but they will stay up without a problem.

Because my feet are large, I will often purchase a men’s size medium, since it’s hard to find this style in a women’s large size. Smart Wool’s women’s calf length socks, regardless of style, all run a little short on me, which is another reason I prefer buying the men’s version.

I’ve rarely been able to find the padded boot socks in store, so I normally order online. I’ve been very happy with mine—they are comfortable, wear like iron, and wash up fine in cold water. I do hang them up to dry, so I don’t know how they’d come out of a dryer. Good luck!

Kkards, you mention something that may contribute to the issue — my calves are long. Socks in general tend to run a little short on me. Like how over the knee boots basically hit me right under my knee bone, LOL.

Janet, how important is it that they be ultra warm? If that's not a chief concern, check out these offerings:

https://www.wolfordshop.com/hosiery/socks

FWIW, my Bombas were also way too "squeezy" on my foot, even after I sized up. And too thick for any of my shoes to fit over. Too bad, they're a company I'd like to support.

I've given up. I stick to knee-highs, and the Gap for my socks.

Bombas stay up, but are the wrong look for my style. Too sporty and thick. I dislike thick socks.

I'm buying socks the next time I go to Asia. The fits are better for my feet.

UGH so frustrating, Janet! I have a narrow foot, but thick ankles and calves, so many socks look like my legs have a VPL below my knee when the elastic is too tight.

Two brands that have worked for me are pendleton (I get them at Costco) and Wigwam wide band knee socks and the crew socks (I get the ones with the band; they have others without the band)

My husband really likes Bombas, but I find that Balegas are a lot more comfortable for my blister-prone feet and they have a lot of different styles. (I wear them for athletic gear.)

For fashion wear I’ve found Swedish Stockings and Happy Socks comfortable and stay put.

Thanks for the ideas! Lesley, I think part of my problem is that socks are typically not made for narrower feet, even women's cuts. Men's socks do not work for me -- they're too roomy. My feet are slightly narrow and slightly low-volume. The heels of men's socks come nearly up to my ankle!

I wonder if there is a good crew sock with a *wider* band at the top, so it's not so pinchy like the Bombas ones are. Otherwise, they are really good -- not too thick, and they hug the mid-foot nicely. But dang, that top elastic is TIGHT.

Better made. Wash and dry ease. They stay up. They cover my ankles in my cold weather. And they come in fun patterns if you wish.

I have a high-volume foot. They are not as thick as what I think of "hiking socks" (which is what they call them) but definitely thicker than a regular cotton sock or Uniqlo heat tech socks, if you have experience with those. Like, not as thick as "ragg" socks.

Lesley, are the Enerwear socks thick? I wonder how they are on a low-volume foot. I think part of the issue is that my heels are losing padding and are even narrower than they used to be, creating more movement of my feet in my boots. But if I size down, they’ll be too short. And insoles don’t help.

April, I have some good knee-highs already but those are best left for wider leg pants that don’t hug my leg. I need shorter socks to wear with jeans/pants that skim or hugs my calves. Because I apparently have tree trunks for legs, the band at the top of knee highs comes up right to the thickest part of my calf and then pinches, creating an ugly bulge under my jeans leg. So shorter socks are a need, but they all seem to slip down unless they’re so tight they pinch.

I borrowed someone's Bomba no-shows and found that they didn't stay put; had much better luck with Nike ones.

I have bought Enerwear wool socks for two years in a row now and they are great. Warm, stay put, wash well (I put them in the dryer, which they recommend against). And such a great price. Four pairs for less than one pair of Smartwools.

I have been having an awful time of socks slipping down and getting bunched up inside my boots/shoes, especially crew or mid-calf socks (knee highs are only good with wide leg pants, otherwise you see the band through the pant legs which is not a good look).

I bit the bullet and ordered some from Bombas. The good news: they stay up. The bad news: they stay up because the band at the top is so tight I can feel it while I’m wearing them, and it leaves an indent in my legs after I take them off!

Ugh. Onward.
