I thought it so lovely the way they let people down gently when they were left things by their grandmothers. I could very much relate as two things Mum left me she claimed would become valuable and both of them that was proven to not be the case at all! Not that I needed money but it was interesting. I don’t think I will leave anything to my girls that I claim will be particularly valuable. Another thing is a tiny red jug from 1916 with my great grandmother’s name on it- when I looked into that it was a souvenir of some exhibition that year and there are hundreds of the things. So it’s only special because it’s her name- and I also think it’s cute. I remember years ago looking at suits with my husband. The SA called a particular one, “a three foot plaid”, because you could tell it was plaid from three feet away.
