I'm always intrigued by the "showing how pervasive violence is" discussion, especially about books that lovingly describe it.

The idea of it being an escapist reading was exactly the kind of prejudice I had the first time I came across Larsson. Reading it proved me wrong; I side with Caro here... I think the book shows how pervasive violence is and it also allows a glimpse into the works of investigative journalists (even if this is a bit romanticized; I met none as courageous as Blomkvist. Most heroic acts I witnessed were born out of cheer luck or plain dumbness.)

@La Belle Demimondaine: I tried without success to find some stils for you... Have you seen the Swedish movie adaptation? If I am not mistaken, the disguising itself has a bigger emphasis on it (longer shots) and you might enjoy it! Although I enjoyed Daniel Craig as Bond (specially in Casino Royale), I miss the old times... when being a secret agent wasn't all about strength and "keeping it cool".

Roger Moore is my favorite Bond. I miss the English gentleman touch that older Bonds had and that is now gone (Pierce Brosnan didn't have it anymore either...)

I liked the first one just fine. The second one was ok. I didn't finish the third book. Coming from someone that finishes almost every book she picks, (including long and tough books like Crime and Punishment, The Red and the Black or Anna Karenina, or sagas like Twilight, Hunger Games or Harry Potter) this means something. I guess I didn't find it engaging enough and got bored of the style, themes, characters. I have yet to see the film (haven't seen either versions).

I wasn't that sensitive back then though and I wonder if I could read them now. I suffered through the 'Dexter' pilot just yesterday and I don't feel like watching any other episode, no matter how good the series is. Maybe I'm getting softer...

I loved them & saw them a little differently. Imo they weren't condoning or revelling in the violence, they were trying to expose how pervasive it is - especially in institutions that should be caring for the vulnerable.

Is this the man who wrote Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? Want a style/fashion tie-in? I LOVED Rooney Mara's wardrobe when she disguises herself as the wealthy blonde girl. I keep meaning to find stills online and put them on Pinterest.

(Ahhhh.... Daniel Craig. He did seem a bit out-of-place in Dragon Tattoo, but he will always be the quintessential Bond in my book.)

I intend to sit down at some point and start reading Larsson. I really love a writer who doesn't spare his characters. (Dan Brown, take note.)
I loved it! I came across it at my former office "give away" desk. The Portuguese edition I read had a terrible cover and I must admit I approached the book full of prejudices.

Well, a chapter in and I was hooked! I strongly recommend both the trilogy and the movies (the Swedish adaptation, please! Daniel Craig doesn't fit the bill for Mikael Blomkvist.)

I liked it. I found when I started it I wasn't paying as much attention as I should and I got really confused in the first book, so I had to start over. They're obviously pretty graphic, but the story line was quite interesting.

Hey guys :)
I hope there isn't another topic about these books but I wasn't able to find anything to search for this topic.
So what do you think of this trilogy?
