I like your minimalist attitude, MPJ! I too believe that less is more – accept when it comes to handbags (my weakness) .

Your shoe and boot collection is off to a great start. I have nothing further to add at this point since the lasses have offered excellent suggestions. If you need help along the way, give us a shout.

Yes, so gorgeous! I wasn't sure what the thought was on that as far as leg line was concerned. I am not as keen on the dark brown...I'm also a bit leggy, so I thought perhaps I could get away with breaking that particular rule. I would love to expand my pants wardrobe to include khakis and twills, but right now it's just jeans, so whatever I get (particularly if I splurge) has to go with that.

I just got the red heels - clearance from DSW - I was so surprised to find seasonal-appropriate footwear in the clearance section, but so excited! The black/pewter Joan & David came from there as well - also clearance.

The rainboots with the apples on them - I just had to get - I'm planning to sew an aqua trench coat over the winter, just in time for spring. I'm hoping it looks cute together - and not too matchy-matchy.

Thanks everyone, for your comments! I will definitely think about the jeans issue - that's actually a really smart plan. :)

I'm a minimalist at heart, so I'm more than happy with a small collection. The biggest hole I see right now is that I do not have a short "smart casual" boot to wear with bootcut jeans. I love my high heeled ankle boots, but they're not very practical for the playground.

I'm not really a loafer person, I've realized...perhaps part of it is that I think to make a classical, conventional shoe like the loafer work, the rest of your outfit really needs to be modern and updated. I'm not sure...it's been a while since my loafer days (5th grade?).

I keep coming back to these boots:
http://www.zappos.com/frye-carson-shortie-tan

YUM.

Question - would they work with dark wash jeans?

I started with a collection like that, probably even fewer, only a couple of years ago. Be patient, and be discerning, and you will find everything that you need.

You might think about the style of jeans you have or like most before deciding on shoes. I find that I can wear a greater variety of shoes with bootcuts but the length of the jeans/heel height of shoes is more critical to get PPL.
If you are on the floor cross-legged with little ones, kneehigh boots are harder to wear but short flat boots work fine. For winter I find my short flat or wedge-heel boots get the most use. If you like loafers, they would be a good choice too.

Nice working collection! I love the red lace up casual flats - very fun! I live in jeans/dress pants most days also & for me I've been wearing my booties practically non-stop! I love them for the reasons Angie described on her post today. I got a very point-toe'd (can't elongate my legs enough), brown textured/pebbled Donald Pliner pair. I LOVE them!! The other pair I got are black leather (patent looking) Aquatalia's - yummm!! Great to wear with tights & a skirt also. These are my go-to shoes right now! I also have 2 pair of knee-high 2" heeled Cole Haan's that I bought a few yr's ago. Great staples but becuase I wear pants/jeans most days they don't get as much use. I always look for texture/detailing in shoes for some reason. I think they all have to be "killer" that I buy anymore!

It looks like a great start. The ankle boots are fab and the red and black shoes are gorgeous. I think you have heels covered i'd concentrate on comfy flats to replace those sporty looking ones. The docs have the comfy rugged look covered so perhaps a smart pair of knee high boots to wear with skirts and dresses x

Okay, I was inspired/shamed by KristenKP's recent posting of her fall/winter shoe collection to go and itemize my own, to see where there might be any holes. Oy.

Here is the motley crew in all its glory:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....748324320/

Two pairs of casual shoes (too sporty for my new look), two heels (vintage details), two ankle boots (tall heels, not often worn due to lack of suitable occasions), one pair of rain boots, new Docs, and snow boots.

I'm really starting over with my image and wardrobe. I feel like my casual shoes (which of course, I wear most often as a SAHM with two little kids) are way too sporty for the image I want to project - funky, chic, polished...can I be all those things??

I'm not sure where to put my money right now...casual flats, ankle boots, slouchy ankle boots (flat or low heels), tall dress boots. I wear jeans every day except Sunday, when I wear a dress or skirt - so a casual pair of boots/shoes that goes with dark wash jeans and a pair of tall boots? I have two wrap dresses right now - solid black and brown animal print (zebra). Not sure what color tall boot I'd get.

Anyway, after seeing Kristen's gorgeous collection, I just had to post mine, if only to give you guys a chuckle.
