Thanks for answering my questions! I like that criteria #!: Don't leave the house in something you don't wwant photographed. Hmmm. Karie--too funny about the UPS guy. Maybe, if he saw you, he'd just figure you didn't have any decent clothes yet--they they were all in the box?

Karie, you have been so disciplined with your picture taking. You've learned a lot, and since you've been sharing your findings, we've learned a lot too! I can really relate to you're wanting your clothes to fit just right and be fuss free.
Thanks to lyn*'s link in Link Love last week, I will now be able to tailor some dresses myself like you did. I love that white floral top from Target. It's gorgeous. I also love your dark denim jacket (the one you have on with your pub-crawling T--lol,).

Suz, I have to chuckle at your "step further" - I am sitting here in cut off Old Navy sweat shorts and a Thousand Islands tee (the place not the salad dressing, lol), and the UPS man just dropped off a box from Zappos. The window shade on picture window in the living room is up, so I ducked between the loveseat and the ottoman until he left!

Another lesson to learn...but in my defense I am house cleaning today :) OK, so I'm not house cleaning yet, but I intend to start soon!

Karie, you are a star student!! (Not to mention, a fab teacher.)

Congratulations on a full year of photos!! I am blushing, because I haven't even managed more than a month at a time (and me, a 3 year veteran of this place!)

I was just saying to Alana today how important the regular photos can be to our learning.

You have proved this tenfold. Or is that twelvefold? Anyway, you've proved it.

I can't wait to read your reflections. I am very taken by your observations so far: Comfort can be stylish. Don't settle. And don't leave the house in something you wouldn't want to take a photo of.

Even though I haven't always been as regular in my photos as I would like, I definitely made the latter my mantra when I began the YLF journey. I have even taken it a step further: Don't wear (as daily wear) anything in the house that you would be horrified for the UPS man to see! (Obviously undies are excepted here).

I love your tailored dresses - isn't a little nip and tuck the best thing?

I think the concept of not leaving the house in something you wouldn't want to take a picture of is interesting - I've definitely been guilty of schlepping on a t-shirt to go to the grocery store - teehee. Maybe it's just as easy to schlepp on something a bit more presentable.

Alana, I didn't have goals for each month per se, but I did have one requirement: No leaving the house in any outfit you don't want to take a photo of. I was prompted to do it because I felt like I was having trouble putting in to practice what I was learning about on YLF. I am a very visual learner, and I learn by doing and reflecting on that. As I made note of some of the things I had figured out, I tried to build on that even more the next month. One of the biggest things I learned was to stop settling. That is/still is a hard habit to break!
Taking the pics didn't take long at all - I started taking pics in the mirror and then I went to ust leaving the Gorilla tripod and the camera out and snapping a few pics in the kitchen the next morning. Easy peasy.

Another lover of the vest outfits--so interesting to see how well the outfit worked both ways!
I have looked through some of these past learning curve posts of yours and it's so interesting to me that you did this. What a great idea. I'm wondering if I should do something myself. May I ask what prompted you to do this? Did you have goals each month?

Fantastic set of outfits Karie and congratulations on the one year outfit-pics-taking anniversary ;). You are right. Time to reflect and look back and I love how pictures help in doing just that :)

I love the plaid pants collage. Your self made handkerchief skirt is so pretty! We have lot of talented seamstresses around here :)

But my absolute favorite has to be the vest outfits. Taking notes for my own! Cool shoes!

Something has shifted (don't be alarmed, I'm not talking about my undergarments!). I mean style-wise. Here's what shifted this month:

Comfort can be stylish. No more wearing old sweat pants for the 3 hr. car ride for a weekend get-a-way to Lake Ontario. I almost did that Sat. morning, but I just couldn't and I changed clothes. It also ties in with another learning aha moment that happened earlier this year - Don't settle for something that doesn't fit the way you want it to - ill fitting garments aren't comfortable AND they're not stylish.

So the great experiment of school year 2013-2014 is done. I started taking outfit pics every work day of the school year, and then added weekends too. I plan on going back to the photos and looking at what I wore/didn't wear, what stays in my closet/what goes. I do want to do a reflection post - Egads, this is where I started, and hallelujah, this is where I am now - and then it'll be back to individual/weekly outfit posts.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings, and for better or worse, here's June:
#1 Stray from your comfort zone - A not-too-into flowers gal goes floral from head to toe (handkerchief hem skirt is self made, top is from Target)
#3 - Proportions make a difference: The red jacket (Levi's, last year) looks fine, the white jacket (older) not so much.
#6 - Get a little funky: Funky shoes and a vest to shake things up a bit.
#7 - Have fun with fashion: The outfit on the left is what I wore to my school's end-of-year pub crawl. The tee (from Swedish Hill Winery, Lake Placid, NY) is my report card (!) - it says "Drinks well with others"
#10 - Do alterations, don't expect everything to fit off the rack: The dress is altered, and so is the polka dot one in #2. I can do my own alterations, but I wouldn't hesitate to take something difficult to a good tailor.
