So I went to the ceremony today and wore the outfit as proposed, except that I swopped the wedge sandals back to the original Mary Janes - I decided at the last minute that these shoes might be better for walking than the high sandals. I was glad I did because we had to walk from the family's home to a beautiful decking area in the veld for the ceremony... how divine is this place? I do love Africa!

I was a little concerned about whether the outfit was appropriate but the dress code for the day was fairly casual and I did not feel out if place at all.

Exactly! Love this "tweak," Hil. From your posts, I get the feeling you feel like camouflaging the midsection. Wearing a tuck with belt under a jacket is a great way to break in this look while feeling "tucked away" so to speak. The scrunch in the sleeve and the wedge open and lift the silhouette.
I do think your style and wardrobe would warrant a shorter (what Angie calls "cheeky") denim jacket. Mine is a little long, but I don't wear it enough to warrant a second purchase. I think this would be a purchase for you, however, if you find one.

Love those wedges, BTW!

That depends on whether being super casual is allowed and respectful to the parents. If so - my thumbs are up!

Thistle - I think the cat was actually trying to get to my empty bowl of fruit salad and yoghurt for a lick, lol!

Yay - a thumbs up from Angie... The next question... is this suitable for a baby naming ceremony on Monday morning, being held outdoors at a nature estate? No dress code specified.

Okay! Getting somewhere now! I need a shorter jacket, definite hole in my wardrobe. I didn't even see my SkatCat playing in the background

Hmm, I like #1 much better than #2 and #3, a definitive improvement. Do you by any chance have a really cropped denim or similar jacket, that hits around your waist? I feel that would work even better.

Oh, it looks so much better in 1! It has the flowiness but you can see your waist, and I love those shoes with it.
So I tried a couple of the suggestions from the other thread with regard to the long brown skirt.

Tucked in the tank top
Added a belt
Changed the shoes to a wedge sandal
Scrunched the sleeve on the denim jacket

Does this work any better or should a I give up and donate the skirt...?

#2 and #3 are the original pics I posted, for ease of reference :)
