It IS the jeans and it IS ALSO the widely-spaced back pockets. I tried these on a few months ago and while I loved, loved, loved the front (as I do on you), it was the weirdly-positioned pockets in back. So, they didn't leave the store no matter how good the felt on me. I also recall reading about this pocket problem on a few reviews which tipped me off when I went to try them.

I tired these jeans on yesterday and LOVED them. Hahaha! It's so funny how we all see things differently! Granted I don't have much of a backside and so the fading kind of helped it look as though I do have a backside (which is always a goal if mine!) - but I think the key difference (as others have mentioned) was the size. Mine literally hung off of my hips - sitting much lower than yours and overall, a much looser fit. So - maybe try a larger size and see what you think?

ETA: I never consider how my rear view looks when making a decision about a piece of clothing - sooo there's that too. It's all about the front side. I have a feeling that if I started paying attention to my rear view that I'd get real depressed and not ever buy anything.

Suz, I wonder if I should just bite the bullet and try the Bradford wash at the same time, even though they're full-price.

I always have to accept some compromise in the rear view of BF styles on me. They never look as cute as they do on straighter figures. It seems like they should have the potential to make me look a little smaller because of the loose fit, but in reality, the extra fabric sometimes causes just the opposite.

Yup. I have the Bradford wash, Janet.

Mine also fit looser in the back -- much looser than the model's -- and hang down like a guy's jeans.

OK, I like these from the front enough that I think I'm going to try them a size up. I'm not sure vanity will allow me to go two sizes up though, where their sizing tops out.

Also, I figured out why that stock photo didn't have the faded butt -- it's a different wash, the Bradford:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ra.....ts-_-1_1_B

It doesn't have that brown tinge, but the back is a more uniform wash. And of course it's not on sale.

Gotcha, Angie, I might try them a size up, I dunno about two sizes up because the waist was already quite big, and even with a belt (which I always wear wiht BFs) sometimes it just gets really bunchy. Im not sure I really want another pair of very baggy BFs. I liked the slim BF vibe from the front, and the baggier jeans are, the more challenging I find them to style. I already have a few pairs of baggy-butt jeans. The rear wash still bugs me, and again, I just don't understand it because I *love* the wash in the front. Why did they have to make the seat and upper thigh so much lighter?

Maybe it's the universe telling me I have enough jeans.

Guys I think Angie is right - when these are oversized the wash patterns will look more natural and less junk-blasting. If you have hips I would go for it! My problem is that I have none, so boyfriend jeans tend to crunch up at the crotch and bag at the butt when I wear them. Different problem, but still annoying!

Ah. Got it.

Well, FWIW Janet and Pastrygirl, BF jeans are generally big at the waist and require a belt. So if you think it's worth it of course - do try the jeans again a few sizes up. For my clients, they were the best jeans at the sale and most of them bought a pair. Some bought two pairs. The wash is fashion forward - has a brown edge to it, which looks "new". Quality is gorgeous too. There is my 2 cents. xo

Angie, I don't know if that will be enough to sway me! I look wide as a house in that fade wash treatment, and I don't think sizing up will make that go away? Plus the waist was already quite big. I don't really understand the wash -- the stock photos on the website don't have any fading on the rear at all.

Pastrygirl and Janet, do try a size or two up on the Dre's. That's the problem with the fit here. They don't look like boyfriend jeans - and getting the size right will help adjust the back view and overall fit.

Honestly this doesn't look that bad to me! It does accentuate your curves though so if you want to avoid that, then return them. But Janet please rest assured you have the kind of backside that men will always check out and women would like to have!!!

Now that we have that sorted...

I do think this jean is meant to be worn lower on the hips. The pockets aren't supposed to hug the hips, they are supposed to fall down the backside like a man's jean. This jean may work better on a rectangle or narrow hipped figure though. It may look really cute on a narrow hipped apple rather than an hourglass, for example.

Shiny, the thing is, I have a flattish butt! It's just wide, and these jeans make it look even wider. Maybe some women want to look wider across their rear, but I am most definitely not one if them. Quite frankly, my rear is the last place I want people looking. I always hated wording across the butt!

Perhaps these jeans are designed for those who have flat or boyish rears? The fading and wider pocket placement may be calculated to give the illusion of a more generous rear.

However my knee-jerk reaction was to think this was return of what DH jokingly called the "baboon butt" fading trend, which peaked early 2000's, along with the words-on-butt (Juicy) sweats trend. The rear fading was worn with ultra low rise jeans and thongs that showed. Perhaps this is R&B's version of a "modern" interpretation?

Heavens to Murgatroyd, what's up with the design of the back of those jeans? It's like having a spotlight on your bum. Not flattering on anyone, not ever. It's not you, it's the jeans. Yikes! I'm going to have to start checking my rear view more often.

Janet, I actually thought the fading looked weird on the model online. I was excited to see the "Dre" jean (the name of this BF style, if I'm not mistaken) on sale, because I've admired it. But when I saw the fading pattern, I decided I wasn't into this particular version. So, you've confirmed it looks this way in real life, too!
On the other hand, the top looks totally fab! It's great you have the perfect bra for it.

Proper fanny flattering fit can certainly be a challenge. I've read more than one article that says most women have to try on at least 10 pairs of jeans until they find the perfect fit. The rear view IS everything.

I'm glad it's not just me. I have met you in person, and I know that those jeans are NOT doing you justice! Oh well, NEXT!

It's the jeans, and even a good brand like Rag & Bone has poor designs that escape into the wild.

What woman hater made the decision on the back fading and pocket placement of those jeans?!? Totally bizarre, esp. the fading pattern which does not exist IRL. It is definitely not you; it's the jeans. I rarely check my back view, but this is reminder lesson.

The other weekend, I bought a jeans jacket at Goodwill because it fit better than others I've tried over the years. The fade pattern doesn't thrill me, but I'm hoping to even it out by sanding the dark parts. . .

You have a very enviable figure, Janet!
And those jeans have "What on earth were they thinking?" fading placement.

Love the Helmut Lang top!

Pretty sure NO one would look good in those jeans!
