oh no! I ordered this chunky cable knit in Black, but haven't received it yet. I'm so excited to wear it with leggings and boots for winter. Maybe if it was worn with an undershirt? Is the turtleneck part overly itchy as well?

I have no patience for itch or fuzzies, a shame because it's tought to find a sweater that is warm, fun, and will layer well. Sometimes they are too slim or thin, other times too scratchy or shed a lot.

I tried this J. Crew sweater last winter and also immediately returned it, but for a different reason. I could deal with the itch factor (I have a high tolerance) but it IMMEDIATELY coated my pants and everything it touched in hair. Worse than my long-haired kitty! High shed factor is a big no-no for me. I too am sticking with cashmere and have found a few relatively chunky options.

Angie, did you get the colorful twinset from your Pinterest?! I loved that.

I'm disappointed to hear the JCrew pullover is itchy. I'm eyeing the GAP one myself. The price point is better and casual is great for me. I'm torn between the light grey and the cream.

Angie, that is such a shame, especially as you run cold and would get lots of wear from a comfortable sweater. I can just picture you wearing something similar to the Brandon Sun outfit.
Except for cashmere, wools feel itchy on me unless it's bitterly cold and damp. Merino is usually fine over something.
I can't wait to see you sporting the twin set.

Hmm. I have two of those from J Crew, I think they are circa 2005 (best guess). Green and blue. I don't know if it's the same fabrication but I find -- with any wool sweater -- if you can bear to wear them a whole day, your body oils get into the fabric and then they no longer itch.

Wonder where I stashed those? I am pretty sure I saved those, and another chunky sweater or two, in case of weather cold enough I don't care that I'm wearing the Dreaded Turtleneck (not my best look).

Glad to be of help :)

Dana, I haven't found a cashmere chunky cable in cream yet. But that is the way to go. Cotton cables don't strike my fancy as much - although my skin likes them. I have found some cashmere to work - so that's the best bet.

I will absolutely post it, Nadya. Inge helped me track down the matching cardi because it was out of stock in my size. I got it last night and wore the twinset out straight away I loved it so much.

Angie, have you considered cashmere or a cashmere-cotton blend? I find them very soft. I believe you've said in the past that you find cashmere itchy; I always find it SO much less itchy than wool, especially if you wash in the machine with shampoo!

I agree, Laura. The Gap jumper is adorable but too casual for the look I am going for. I do think it's fab on others though :)

HUGE disappointment!

*very sad pouty face*

Itchy wool around your neck is the absolute worst. Second worst is angora hairs getting into your eyes, closely followed by mohair, which I never understood.

Sorry, Angie. I hope something better comes along. I might try the GAP sweater, since it comes in petites. But it is much more casual looking than the JCrew version.

Thanks for commiserating. ladies. I hope it works on someone!

I can usually wear cashmere and most merino wool with ease. I just bought another cashmere pullover (and a fun twinset!!!) and they feel heavenly against my skin. I wonder at this stage whether I will ever find a chunky cable knit that is not itchy! :(

Suz, I have a huge problem with Angora and Mohair irritating my nose too. It's AWFUL.

I have real trouble with wool, too. The only item I have that I can stand to wear is mostly merino, I think. I don't know if it is a proper allergy or what but no amount of layers can make a normal itchy wool sweater wearable for me.

I also read about alpaca wool that it has an ability to keep you warm in cold and cool in heat - something with the extreme of the temperature changes in the high altitude regions where alpaca live, their fleece adapted to it.
I also have some Australian merino wool tops and they are incredibly not itchy at all so that may be another option for a sensitive skin. I wear them like winter camis, right next to bare skin and don't feel them at all!

We all just need the brilliant Dianna to knit us chunky alpaca sweaters! Sveta, I totally agree with you. Alpaca, especially baby alpaca, is the most brilliant fiber for sweaters. Soft, incredibly light, very warm. Lush!

Angie, I'm totally bummed too about the sweater. It is so gorgeous to look at, and I love the back shaping that I saw in the photo. Scratchy wool in a turtleneck though is torture. I'm always so disappointed when retailers trade quality fabric (or fiber in this case!) for price point.

Ah, what a shame! It is a gorgeous sweater for sure!
I was in the Gap today and tried on a cream stitch t-neck:
http://www.gap.com/browse/prod.....=245752022
I know why you warmed to this look, Angie because I loved it! I had on my "not slouchy but loosely fitting" trousers and I absolutely loved how they look with a chunky short sweater! I did not buy it though but I am on the lookout for sure and I want a cream one.
Suz, angora gives me the itch too and I hate how it leaves fluff everywhere. I think the best wool for sensitive skin is alpaca but it i not easy to find.

For me, angora is the absolute worst. It feels gorgeous and soft, but the fibres seem to get into my eyes! And I go nuts with itchiness! Wool is (or can be) okay in very tight weaves, fine gauge. Chunky is always more problematic.

I'm going to do some experimenting with my sweater to see what works. I feel very happy that I did not pay a lot for mine; it is a fun way to play with the trend at this price point, but if I cannot wear it with comfort, I won't feel as if I have wasted my pennies.
