Thanks for commenting, Roberta. I like the aesthetic of those bags--solid and elegant at the same time.

I've been on Andrea Iyamah's mailing list for a long time. Every so often, I think I should stop clogging my inbox with it, because those things will never suit my lifestyle, but then I see something like this jumpsuit or these pants and decide that if I ever did have something come up where I could wear that sort of thing, it'd be a shame not to have her website to reach to. I have one swimsuit from there. It's a two piece, without the complicated straps and cutouts of some of her suits, and the top has an unusually high neckline. I like having that as the "made you look" factor, rather than more skin.

I clicked through to look at the bags and noticed something I hadn't seen before--the left sidebar has links to other lists, including

23 Black Owned Alternatives to H&M

The last one is my favorite because I'd been thinking, related to Sal's comment, that while "shopping black" addresses one set of issues, there are other important factors too. That list looks likes it encompasses multiple concerns.

Sal, yes, it's only human to have some flaws, but there are limits. I'd be friends with someone with a quick temper, who flared their eyes and nostrils and generally got twitchy at what I thought were small irritants, but if they kicked me, it'd be over.

I do agree that companies can be well behaved in one area and poor in others. Bit like humans too...

I posted this an hour ago. Look what just popped up in my Facebook feed:

Gucci issued an apology for the offense caused by their “blackface
sweater”. I don’t accept. In fact, at this point, I’m convinced that
these “mistakes” are part of these folks marketing strategy. No one can
still be this clueless unless its intentional.

That being said, here is a list of Black owned luxury brands that you
can use to replace brands like Gucci and Prada that refuse to act
right.

SO glad that Bijou mentioned Stella McCartney. A beacon of hope in the midst of very badly behaved designers. She's very pro animal rights too.

I like to support Nordstrom because it's a politically progressive company. Very supportive of LGBT issues for example, and they are very inclusive of sizes and body types. Fun that Nordies is local for me too.

I'm always happy to support Patagonia!

Eileen Fisher is another that comes to mind, although the styles largely don't suit me and I balk at their retail pricing. Also, in a similar vein, the NZ company Kowtow.

I've been really impressed with the pieces I have from Amour Vert and they seem to have pretty high standards.

Tory Burch... don’t love that much is manufactured in China, but love her commitment to women and especially the economic empowerment of women
Eileen Fisher....same reason as Tory Burch. As well as her commitment to better manufacturing practices.

From time to time, someone posts about egregious behavior at corporation headquarters, awful conditions for workers actually creating the products, or racist displays/items. These are important reminders to us to be careful about what we support. That, however, can be frustrating. It is entirely possible that a company could rate well on two of the above categories and abysmally on the third. Amnesty International, which is in the business of human rights, has recently been revealed to have a toxic work environment. If it can happen there, it can happen anywhere.

On the other hand, Bijou recently posted "Stella McCartney is a bit of a beacon in the design world for her ethics". This company's founding seems to be something I'd like to support (though I know nothing of worker conditions) https://www.melvin-hamilton.co.....n-hamilton What companies do you know of that are doing good in the world, such that you want to support them?
