I think you have done a remarkable job of culling and clearing, so I hope you will not be hard on yourself. It was also wonderful that you could "shop" your holding zone and find some goodies there. I understand your frustration regarding consignment stores. All the resale shops around here have the "hanger rule". As my husband and I do not take a lot for dry-cleaning, I have very quickly run out of wire hangers... and refuse to give the shops my good ones. And yes, most shops do not take sizes beyond a 14... frustrating. We have one plus-size consignment store nearby, but the split is not great. I often find it is just easier to donate my gently worn items and take the tax credit.

Wow, no plus sizes and a hanger shortage? No wonder that consignment shop couldn't make it!

My favorite consignment shops are one and two hours from where I live now, respectively. I've had accounts at both for many years. I make a point to stop in whenever I'm visiting friends in the area, and keep a box ready to go for each (tricky to get the season right!).

The consignment shop in my new town isn't nearly as friendly and doesn't have a great selection -- they're very picky about brands, so there's not much quirkiness -- it kind of looks like a JCrew/BR factory outlet with some designer evening wear and high-end sportswear mixed in -- which to me defeats the whole purpose of shopping secondhand. Plus, it means they never want my stuff.

I think you did a great job with your holding zone. It is so strange that consignment stores do not take plus sizes, as I would assume based on the recent statistics we discussed that there would be a large marker for them. Bad business model for them.

One step forward and one step back sometimes...

I would have thought plus sizes were just as desirable second hand, I know most consignment/thrift shops are overloaded with small sizes so there is a market.

Good that you know how to style them now:)

Why don't consignment stores take plus sizes? Very strange.

It can be very fun to shop your holding zone. Good job, Barbara.

Finding new life in your not quite new clothing is terrific. It is annoying that some places don't take plus sizes. When will everyone just grow up?

Today I brought in from the closet of my garage the never quite got it to the consignment store clothing from 2 falls ago. Actually, a more accurate statement would be the clothes I took in and was told at first yes on some items, and then, no, come back in two weeks. The first SA said yes, the second....Also, they wanted them on hangers. Not too bad a request, but they hadn't previously. And I had given them all my extra hangers 6 months to a year previously, as they were short. 50-100 of them. Due to their limited hours and my limited hours of having a rental car at the time, that was that.

The good-some of the clothes fit, and they are saving many items in my closet that were on the fence. The styling info. I've learned here since the clothes were banished makes them work again. Yay Angie and YLF! And it makes letting go of the others easier also.

The bad-some of the clothes fit again. I keep reminding myself that many are still too big, and these are the smaller ones because I had already sold/donated the largest ones.

The other bad-the place I consigned at went out of business. Most places don't accept plus sizes.
