Vix, I wear progressive lenses so I'm not sure how that effects the way my eyes look?

Deb, I looked at the warbyparker, website and picked some frames to try. I have a question for them because one frame I'm interested in doesn't seem available for home try on, but it is still available for purchase. I wonder if that means I can try them at some later date?

Vix, I am very nearsighted and get the lens that do not make my eyes look smaller. They do cost more but I feel it is worth it because glasses are on my face all day, every day.

SF, Warby Parker just got some new smaller frames in that are really cool. I hope they get these color combos in the larger size frames also. They also have a try on at home program that is excellent. Free shipping both ways. They may look really good on you.

https://www.warbyparker.com/ey.....stler-grey

ETA - I buy the WP frames and have my optometrist put lens in them then if I do not like the frames I send them back.

Hi SF --

I do like that while big, the lower edge of the frame doesn't hit too low (a problem I found in my recent reading glasses hunt -- I think the mid-to-low cheek hit that looks hipster retro on faces with fewer years on them is much tougher to get right on those of us who lived through the trend!).

As a member of the No Really, Very Nearsighted club one thing you may want to consider is *corrected* eye size look : overall frame size.

IOW: Once your lenses are in, your eyes will appear smaller, which will make the overall expanse of glass look bigger.

As a contact lens wearer most of the time, I'm always (still, ha) surprised when the glasses I tried on in plain glass come back with my RX and look...different.

[My eyes look much smaller due to RX, which almost makes reading glasses fun...bigger eyes when wearing glasses, who knew?]

Of course all this is personal taste, but I find going wider is ok, it's the taller (top to bottom) measurement I have to consider carefully as I have definite preferences for my ratio of eyeball to glass!

Destri, Thanks for looking at the Warby Parker Web site, I do like the frames you found, I have a similar shape frame to these for my current reading glasses. They are much darker, but maybe I will try to take a photo so you can see them. They are a dark tortoise with a green interior. I have had them for many years. I had darker hair in the past so they worked. Now that my hair is lighter, they don't.

Suz, the Bevel catalogue is so much fun. I love all the colors. Within seconds I found a pair that is the same shape as my current glasses, only well defined. I am not sure if the shape of my glasses right now is a problem, or if they are just too bland because they give no definition? Once again, I am not sure about the color, but I love how the interior is a turquoise shade. I have to say that one of the pairs of glasses that I tried on was a dark navy with a very light green interior. The SA loved it, but I worried it was much too dark. I understand how they could create more contrast and bookend dark colors like navy.
The whole idea of contrast has continued to interest me. Recently Imogen Lamport had a few posts about finding your contrast/value levels and they were very well done. I followed her steps to figure out that I am a a very low contrast person. Even when my hair was darker, I would not have been more than a medium to low contrast person. She also gave advice on how to figure out how many colors you could handle wearing along with neutrals. The answer for me was not very many. So interesting to read her posts. I have copied the link to one of them below.

Here is the link to the glasses that remind me of the pair I already have.

Staysfit, you have lovely eyes.

If the colour is true, these look too dark, but it would also help to see a photo showing you in your clothing.

Despite my own fair colouring, I had a pair of black specs with white inside. Some people felt they were too dark for me -- and I admit, they were pretty dominant. But I used to like to wear them to "bookend" darks when I was wearing navy or black. They helped to balance higher contrast outfits on me. So consider that aspect.

I do prefer specs that show the eyebrow vs. covering it up.

I had a lot of luck with Bevel specs. They do make a petite line, but even their regular specs fit a smaller face very well. I have a lot of trouble fitting glasses and yet several styles of theirs worked well on me immediately. You can view them by size on the site.

I have these ones: http://www.bevelspecs.com/cata.....-8631/GTFU

And I also have and older style called "Match" that's not in the catalogue any more.

What you need to do is figure out several sizes. First -- what is your bridge size? What size will sit properly on your nose and stay put? Then you also need the width measurement for the lenses. You might need temple length measurements also; I don't typically need those. But finding a pair that truly fits correctly on all dimensions and then looking at the measurements (even if that particular pair doesn't meet your aesthetic criteria) can help you narrow down the other options, although of course you also need to try on because each style will fit a bit differently. (My two pairs of glasses, even from the same company, are not the same size...although admittedly, one pair actually fits better than the other pair.)

I'm a fusspot on this because my prescription was high and complex and so glasses, even with extra thin lenses, were always heavy on me, meaning they gave me headaches. Even the best fitting ones. But badly fitting ones made it far worse.

Here's a fun pair: http://www.bevelspecs.com/cata.....ca-3635/TL

On the Warby Parker web site I did a search for "narrow" (I'm assuming that means smaller frame for smaller face but I'm not sure about that! I know how hard it is to find glasses when you have a small face/head! I deal with that as well)

I was wondering what you'd look like in one of these as these came up in the "narrow" search:
http://https//www.warbyparker......mmer-green

http://https//www.warbyparker......each-glass

I've never ordered from Warby Parker but I think I saw a feature about this company on TV a while back and they talked about how customer friendly they were, etc.

Good luck!

I don't know what I'm doing wrong with linking :/

Anyway: it's the Verne in Beach Glass and the Nedwin in Summer Green!

Dashielle, I really like the Welty and the Watts above. I like the others as well, all excellent choices. I tried a pair similar to the Watts and they were a close second to the Prada. I wonder if they would becsmall enough? I will check it out and see. I really do have a small face! Thanks so much for finding these. I will look at this web site also. Maybe I will order a few test frames to see what they are like.

Annabelle, I'm in no rush, other than I'm getting my eyes checked soon and if there is a change in my lense prescription, I would probably want to order new frames to go with the new lenses. I don't have to. I can have lenses made for what I already own, and wait for the correct frame. Unless I love it, I won't get it.

Unfrumped, I don't have contact lenses. I tried once, but I have Rosacea in my eyes and couldn't tolerate them.

I agree with those who think that a lighter feeling frame would enhance your coloring and face shape even more. (But, you do look great in these.). LaFont historically and recently has frames with a more delicate plastic component, with smaller shapes. They also come in more petite sizes!

I get a lot of help with frame selection at my frames store. These ladies look at faces all day long, and sometimes they will pull a frame for me that I'd overlooked.

If you need to spend the money in 2014, good luck. I've been rushed into frames before, and it's inevitably a compromise.

I hear you on nearsightedness! I am kind of at the hand-waving level of what I can see without correction. I wear contacts + reading glasses, and have glasses for nighttime and needing to be out of contacts other times. So, I get to glasses-shop with my contacts on. Otherwise it would be near impossible!

Thanks Angie, I wonder about the pink pair? I'm waiting on them. My DD will be able to tell me if they are too dark. She has an artists eye. I trust her.

Ha, they do cover my eyebrows don't they! Good observation Gradfashionista! I hardly have eyebrows to begin with!

It seemed like most of the thinner frames were too large for my face. They didn't come in small enough sizes. This may be a difficult hunt. Maybe this is why I ended up with Silhouettes? I don't remember anymore.

The shape is very good. They look too dark and harsh in the photos, but if they are indeed as light as they are in the link - you might have a pair of winners.

I like them but would like to see the lighter color on. The round frames look interesting. Red may be fun.

I'm like the shape, and echoing Unfrumpted, perhaps a thinner frame might be more suitable. These frames also cover your eyebrows. Is that intentional? If not, maybe stick to the same frame shape, but find a frame that sits below your eyebrows for comparison's sake. The combination of the frame and your exposed brows might open up the area even further. Not an expert in glasses shopping, though. Good luck!

Unfrumped, I am glad you feel comfortable giving honest feedback. That's what I'm looking for. My hunt is just beginning. I am practically blind without my glasses so looking on my own is very tough!

I agree you've got some lift going there. To me the frame seems too heavy still--much thicker than you need. Also I think it might look better to have less dip at the nasal bridge--and finally, overall lens size smaller--these are pretty huge lenses. So there "size" meaning facial width, vs. lens size, and frame thickness. Sorry to be a party pooper, but I would keep looking.

Love them. I think the pictie shows them too dark indeed vs the opal green presented in the link you added, which is a very sophisticate color and reads to me also more matte than from the photo. Still I think they would require a bit more of a make-up and maybe also a darker/brighter wardrobe too for keeping up with the contrast they provide on your face.(note: It would be much better if picties would be taken somehow half profile and showing of a bit of your frame (say the upper shoulders)). But if you don't really want to play with more make-up or darker clothing, I say the pink tortoise would be somehow better suiting a not so contrasted face and person and they look really awesome on the web, same shape and still plenty of interest. Can't wait to see them on you!:-)

I went on my own to look at frames. Not a great selection, mostly because my face is so small that even the small sizes are often too large, but there were a few new frames in stock that could be ordered in a small enough size so I tried them. The best frame by far is pictured below, and hopefully I have followed Angie's guidelines. My eyes are centered, they follow my eyebrow line, they have lift and don't droop etc. They fit my face well, and are the correct size. The only issue is the color. We took multiple photo's trying to get the color to show up correctly but it didn't, they look darker than they are in real life. The color is called opal green and it has light tortoise stems, there are two layers to the green color so it has some interest, but the green looks solid in color straight on. The green is not a light summer green, I would say it is a gray green. There may be a better color option, pink tortoise for the frame, with solid pink stems. They have ordered it for me so I can compare them. I really like the look of them online, and suspect these could be my everyday glasses if I like the color.

http://www.framesdirect.com/fr.....flj/r.html

As I was walking out of the store, I saw a pair of round frames, and remembered that someone suggested I might look good in round frames, I think it was Rachy. I grabbed them and put them on. Excellent! They also looked great. Once again the color was too dark. They did have some fun color frames though, royal blue, red, and ivory. They are ordering the royal blue for me. The stems are black, but they told me they could switch the stems for the ivory, which I think I would like better. These are also Prada frames. I could use the dark color for sunglasses.
