It is funny Angie I have never felt like a bombshell for one second of my life but look back at photos it is a wonder my poor father did not have a heart attack.

Shiny, I honestly believe I have never encountered a person who can articulate their style thought processes as well as you. It is great to have you back.

Anne, I can remember you posting some photos with regards to a figure flattery epiphany.

Laura, good luck with the photos. Organising is a joy and a curse.

Sarah and Ramya, thank you.

If this is indulgent then I'm twice so, as I posted twice as many pics on my thread yesterday!

Yes, I've done the fashion history analysis as well -- I seem to recall I even posted a few pictures here once or twice. I have an album I affectionately named "Past Fashion Horrors."

Lessons learned

- I've always loved trends even when the trends didn't love me. Lesson: be choosy. I don't need to embrace every trend. And a small dose of trend (trendy handbag added to otherwise classic outfit) goes a long way.

- Beware of clothes that wear you, instead of the other way around. Lesson: be wary of regular sized clothes because at 5' tall the fit will not be right.

- Dark hair looks all wrong, and please just say no to bangs.

- Cool tones flatter better than warm tones, and please say no to brown or orange based lipsticks

- Short sleeves are not flattering. Even when lifting heavy weights 5x a week.

- Please mind the rear view. Lots of pants are cut for people with wider hips, beware of saggy butt effect. And take a few extra minutes to fix the back of your hair, even if you can't see it others do.

- My worst fashion faux pas have been with casual wear. I can never seem to get that quite right.

But most of all, "I can't believe you wished you were thinner, wished you were a different shape, wished your skin, coloring, hair type was different. You wished away your entire youth trying to be other than you were not. To have that figure, skin, muscle tone, natural hair color again.............. sigh." It is very true, youth is wasted on the young!

Yes I was thinking the same as Laura about you in the slip dress. Thanks for sharing your memories with us!

I have had some revelations on looking at photos.

You are gorgeous, Jules!! Love you in that slip dress. To me, that is completely you - the soft color and fabric really suit you.

I have never done an analysis but yours is revealing. Let me also express my total and complete awe that you have gone through your photos and made albums. That task lies ahead of me this winter and it is daunting.

I have gone backwards and forwards about whether to post this topic or not, on the one hand it's really indulgent to post so many photos but on the other I feel this task really helped to crystallise my current style in my minds eye.

I have basically spent the last week organising photographs into new albums. The task has taken twice as long as expected due to the cooing over baby photos, thoughts of whatever happened to so and so and laughing at some of the fashions.

However, I started to notice similarities in my clothing choices through out the years and thought this process may be a beneficial tool to those analysing their style.

So the results;
I have always worn soft colours as evidenced in pics, 1 - 3
I have always loved a floral print, pics 4 & 5
I prefer my black pieces to be simple,pics 6 & 7

Of merit are the realisations that I should not wear my hair too blond or resort to fake tan.

I would love to know if you have you taken a walk through your style memory lane and what you discovered along the way?
