I *know it's my perspective, I'm not saying I'm "right" at all, but I think they look odd, except for the last pair. Not even just for me (which would be ridiculous, I simply don't have the body to carry any of those off except possibly the last pair) but I'd do a double-take if I saw any of them. They honestly remind me of pants I wore in the early 70s that my mom made (I guess they were in fashion then) and I suppose I have baggage, lol. Some years there's just a wall I can't get past with what's in style, and this is it for me. I felt the same way about the harem pants but not as strongly. Perhaps this is the road to eventual Alfred Dunner-land but I sure hope not.

I was wandering around GAP today, perusing the $9.99 sale jeans rack and, what do you know, these "vintage" jeans were well represented. Already! I am guessing more people than they supposed were put off by the skewed side seams.

Sorry they didn't work but thanks for the report! And isn't Karie's comment absolute proof of horses for courses or courses for horses! She likes the twisty seams! I am not even sure I understand what that is, but I think it would drive me bananas.

I LOVE the sailor jeans you posted (in theory, anyway) and the cute side-slit ones, but I am with Skylurker that one seems wide and the other more of a slim straight? In any case, both look fab.

I love the quirky feature of the seams! I've worn mine around the house all afternoon, actually trying to find fault with them. They haven't bagged out and I love the 100% cotton. That button fly doesn't do my abs any favors when I sit down, but oh well, I'll do an extra sit-up tomorrow and skip the chocolate cake tonight (OK so I won't skip the cake tonight - but I'll do 2 extra sit-ups tomorrow, promise).

I also saw these jeans at JCrew and I thought I might pop in to the store tomorrow and try them on as I'm looking to add a few refreshers to my jeans capsule.

Twill weave is the culprit here. As a sewist, I can't tell you how many times I have tried to straighten out the grain on cotton twill fabric before sewing it up, only to have it go right back to its original twist the first time through the wash. That said, I really don't mind it in my Gap jeans. On my pair, the left leg seam twists to the front, and the right leg twists to the back. The fit is so good on me otherwise that I will ignore the quirkiness of the off grain legs. (Maybe because it is clear to onlookers that I didn't sew them myself?)

Rats. Although I am having a bit of fun imagining you, balancing a lovely cup of tea in one hand, while desperately trying to straighten your seams at breakfast. No, no, it just won't do!

As you would say, "Next!"

I'll take a look at Rag and Bone, just to see what they're designing. They're not in my price point, or sizing, but I like to train my eye with the best designs -- it helps guide me through the less than stellar items at the local mall!

Sorry to hear the Gap crops were a fail. Maybe it reflects how radically Gap sizing and construction vary from item to item? I had 8 pair at home to try: 2 washes and 3 sizes, no two exactly alike. The knees were fine in the dark washed/released hem in my regular size. But I had to size down (and lose the statement-y quality) in the medium wash to get rid of the pucker.

Love those finds! Bet they all will be terrific on you.

Thanks, ladies. I'm glad I sent them back, despite the fact that my Modern Retro heart was pulling on the keep string. I'd have fussed with those seams and not want to wear the jeans. End of story.

Anne, the poufing on the midsection can be off putting. I was fine with that bit. I'll report back on those sailor jeans.

Glad we can enjoy the Gap vintage straights on Karie and Linder51. Perhaps some versions twist less than others?

I have no idea what a twisted seam is, but I'm looking forward to what you end up with and more importantly how you style the cropped jeans. I've been sporting cropped white jeans all summer, so when I saw the cropped Joe's during NAS I pounced. All I need now, is to figure out how to sport them during the fall and winter months with boots.

I sent the Gap jeans back last week, too, because the fly area poofed out on me as the jeans wore in. I didn't even notice the twisted seams! I own the A Gold E sailor jeans and they seem to run TTS and do stretch a bit with wear. I sized up and wish I hadn't and need to have them tailored in the waist now to counteract the fact they stretch and some weight loss.

Oh that's too bad that they didn't work out for you! I didn't notice any puckering at the knee on my pair, and the denim felt like it was laying flat. I actually like the slanted seam! I've been away so I haven't had a chance to actually do this, but I plan on wearing them around in the house just to make sure that the twist in the seam doesn't bother me, and that the denim doesn't relax too much and make the jeans even bigger.

Of the other jeans, I like the sailor pair the best. They have a fantastic 70's vibe to them.

HAH, Donna. You crack me up.

Deb, Aida and Vicki, the side seam twists to the front from the knee to the anke. You cannot see that in the stock photo. It's weird and causes the knees to pucker. Greg's twisted G-Star jeans are Killer Sensational though, so twisted seasm CAN be done very well.

And Aida, check out the Jodi crops from the front. They have an adorable vent.

Thanks, Tanya. My birthday jeans look like culottes (I'm sure you'll see them soon). I LOVE THEM SOOO MUCH. I sized down so that they're more tailored on me. Those are cute jeans, Tanya. Very Summery though.

I laughed out loud when I pictured you wanting to untwist your legs and I've not heard of twisted seams. Does this cause a puckering or "gaps" in the smoothness of the material?!

I'm very intrigued by #'s 3 and 5, and, yes, I'll stay posted.

Too bad about the Gap jeans - I wonder how I will feel about the twisting hems (they are on their way to me).

I tried the AG June Sailor jeans this spring; I loved the wide leg but they were VERY long on me. Here's a link to the thread:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....afersneake

I really like the Jodi crop. They seem to have a slightly more dressed up feeling, which feels most like your R&B pair.

Good luck!

I am sorry the Gap jeans did not work out for you, Angie; but you are very wise to send them back. I think that the twisting would drive me batty too.
Out of the three potential new pairs, I adore the AG pair, the little side slit is too cute.
I hope that we get to see you wearing the birthday jeans in a future outfit post. Do they look like culottes or wider crops? What length are they and what kind of shoes are you pairing them with? I am pondering my trendy jeans purchase for the season. According to many bloggers and the websites, these Frame jeans are supposed to be THE jeans of the season and I still undecided on how I feel about them. There are already a bunch of more afordable copies elsewhere, cant believe how expensive these are.

The twisting would probably bug me as well. Hopefully, some of these styles will filter down to Petite lengths -- which tend to be so long on me that I still have to shorten them. If I had more energy and motivation, I would scour thrift stores for jeans to hack and then attack them with a sander to get fading in the right place. The tricky sanding is my motivation killer.
