Great news! As someone with similar areas of self-consciousness, I was on the fence about the dress. Objectively I could see it looked great, but I could also understand your hesitation.

Why did I never think of this? I have a knit dress I never wear anymore because I find it slightly too clingy. I will try stretching it out. Lyn67--smart with the pillow trick!!

Well, I missed the original pics somehow, but just looked them up and wow, do you ever look sexy in that dress! I'm glad you're keeping it--you ARE keeping it, right? Dresses made of knitted fabric (and that netted tulle functions like a knit) often do ride up, but a discreet tug or smoothing now & then shouldn't be too distracting. The little lead weights made for draperies might help if you stitched them inside the hem at the side seams. I always stretch my narrow dresses, too. I put my arms inside from the hem up and gently open them wide before putting the dresses on. Seems to help. Wearing them around the house, sitting down and striding can be a good rehearsal, too. Good luck with it; I love it on you.

I'm so glad you're keeping this dress. The pattern looked stunning on you, and I didn't really notice the fit issue, but the riding up would make me nuts. I have a fuzzi dress with two layers, the outer layer is tulle, and the inner layer, I'm not sure. It's very fitted like this. I think the bottom part separates from the top which rides up and leaves the bottom layer exposed, but it's only a rim of around 1.5-2 inches, and I like the effect for the particular dress in question. Honestly, I don't wear it anywhere that I do much walking around, so it isn't too much of a problem for me. How do you plan to wear your dress?

Also just chiming in to say I think you look georgeous in this dress. We sometimes focus on the parts and not the whole. You are beautiful as is your figure and the dress shows that off. We all have our zones of sensitivity and can get lost in the trees and not see how beautiful the forest is. Take a lesson from the eclipse - focus on the zone of totality!! Glad you are still considering it!!

My prediction is that a slip would bunch up underneath. You could have a partial lining tacked in, maybe, to give it more weight, but if you're happy with it as it that's the simplest.

I do have a slip but I suspect it would not have corrected the problem on its own. The dress fabric is very lightweight so there is very little weight to it to encourage it to *hang*, if you know what I mean. I'll try it though!

Good. I like Rachylou's ideas. I use a slippery slip ( cheap thing from Target) with my sweater dresses so they will not cling or ride up.

I'm glad it's working better. I thought the dress looked good on you but it also showed me how different people can see different things based on our own personal figure issues. I tend to have a apple belly that I'm self-conscious of so I looked at the profile pic and thought "nice, flat stomach" and didn't really notice the hip issue.

Are you sick of hearing about this dress yet?

I may have solved the problem! Or, both problems, as it happens. My main problem with the dress is that it started hiking up my legs as soon as I would take even a few steps. The second is that it seemed to cling to my hips and thighs a bit excessively.

Well, yesterday while I worked around the house, I decided to *gently* stretch the bottom of the dress around the back of a small upholstered chair, to see if it would add a little more "give" to the stretchy underlayer of the mesh dress. Well, it worked! When I tried it on again last night, it still shifted upwards when I walked, but not nearly as much as it did before. It also feels and looks less clingy on my legs. The shape is slightly less tapered at the bottom than it was before -- just enough that I don't feel quite so much like it emphasizes my saddlebags.

No pics yet, but I'm feeling better about it. Will definitely share with hubs when he returns home!

Thanks again for the encouragement to look more carefully at it. If I'd just stuffed it in my returns bag, I wouldn't have thought to try the stretching tactic.
