These are all great foundation pieces that also have personality. Well done on having a plan to get your wardrobe where you want it.

Future is just the things I bought but am not wearing yet- based on my life as I expect it to be for the winter. Normally I don't shop much ahead, and I won't necessarily do it this way again. We'll see how it works!

I guess all our shopping is technically for future, unless we walk out of the store wearing it These were just farther in the future than normal! I technically could wear them now, but prefer to avoid heatstroke!
4:00 is also in the future :/

I really love that cable knit. I have to tell you, ‘10’ may sound like a lot, but when I see it spread over the different types of items - I say it’s reasonable AND smart. It makes for a functional set of purchases, if you know what I mean. I find that interesting to think about.

SF, you are right. My perception of "future purchase" is different. I buy for the season ahead and in season exclusively, and stop buying for that season when we are in the middle of it. But it wasn't clear enough in the post, so Suntiger is free to interpret future purchase this way too

Reading today’s blog post, I was wondering exactly what “the future” is. Angie & some others here have routine of completing their buying for a season before the weather is appropriate to wear their purchases, but don’t count that as “future”.

Thanks! I think that my coloring is more muted than I thought, so the neutrals just work better. I'm "brighter" than my Soft Autumn DH, but I think I was mistaking darkness for brightness- after studying Zyla.

Plus I've been through a lot in the last couple years, even without Covid, and need simplicity. All the magpie stuff feels frivolous and out of touch. And in winter when I have to wear so many extra clothes, all the color and detail just feels chaotic. Too much to coordinate too!

I went through this phase too - albeit a few years ago - and feel like I’ve finally stopped the loosy goosy churn . Good work !

Looks like a smart addition to the wardrobe - your preferred colors in classical/modern styles. You were lucky to find so many great pieces in the consignment shops - well done!

I love your simple and elegant "advance purchases". They should mix well with your brighter things. Like you, I'm not fond of wearing brights with black. The mixes of earthy and colourful I've been seeing on YLF are really getting me fired up!

This is by far the most items I ever purchased for the future!

7 out of the 10 were consignment finds- which is probably more than I've bought on consignment total in several years.
The remaining ones were the coat, on big sale, the loafers, and the darker brown sweater. The coat was the one I hemmed and hawed over in a previous post and decided to keep. The shoes I snapped up cause they don't fall off my skinny heels- so HEWI. The sweater was an add on cause I needed some other thing on Big Warehouse, so I bought it to push it to free shipping.

So why did I buy all this stuff, months ahead of when I need it? I've been super unhappy with my winter wardrobe- well forever...A lot of what I had was just a hot mess together: loosy goosy, long over lean- and a looot of color. Brights and black, which I just don't like wearing together. My beige/camel pieces have seen a lot of wear this summer, and I wanted to replicate the look for cold weather and try to rein in the chaos.

I'm not planning to do a 180 and completely toss all the bright, loosy goosy stuff. I'll be combining them with these simpler pieces.

Going forward, I want to move to a French 5 (or less), so I get out of the cycle of replacing so many magpie pieces at once. For now though, it's all about building the foundation!
