Your lifestyle is very similar to mine (most days). It was a little scary to read it as I felt like we are living in parallel universes. You describe it so well. Here is one of my newer favorites.

Great epiphany!

I have slippers that are large and floppy for true PJ and middle of the night wear, and some that are more like a slip-on shoe, but have a looser fit so I can wear comfy socks. I actually like the latter more for casual at-home wear because they have some support but my toes are happy, and a weatherproof sole so I can run outside if needed.
So, I would check out various kinds of slipper-shoe hybrids and also sporty-luxe shoes. Many of those would look pretty good with the butt vest and with ponte pants or track pants at home, some could go right out or you could change shoes. The key for me for prolonged at-home wear is wearing a comfortable, cushy sock and having a roomy toe box--no pointy toes and not even almond toe-- and a softer materal--suede or fabric or the softest leather.

I've been putting together a comfy work at home capsule too. Such a good idea. In winter, our floors get cold so I wear slippers, and in summer, I wear Birks that I keep especially for indoors.

I love a good epiphany post!
I work from home also -- homeschooling middle schoolers and teaching voice lessons at home on the days I'm not at the university. The first thing I did was upgrade my loungewear, which I sleep in. I have been known to guide a science experiment or grade math in my lovely loungwewear! To teach at home, I often wear pants/jeans with stretch, and I will sometimes swap out the sweater/lounge topper for a jacket for a bit of polish.

For shoes? I wear slippers some, but I have a couple of pairs of flats and a pair of booties that I keep clean for indoor wear. I can't teach without shoes! I occasionally wear them out, and just wipe the soles with a damp cloth before returning them to the closet.

Ann, I had a similar realization this year, that I needed more options for days I was on deadline hunkered down or alternately days I didn't feel that well but still was working. Kind of like loungewear in comfort and casualness, but aimed for working from home. I don't mind wearing jeans comfort wise most days but they seem a little more 'dressed' than I was aiming for. Knit pieces seem more like a treat. I'm still working on developing this capsule myself, so I look forward to hearing what you do.

Re shoes, I'm one of those weirdos that wears shoes in the house. That's probably what I do most of the time during the spring and fall. In the colder months I sleep in thicker cotton ragg socks, and often leave them on some of the day if I'm not going anywhere, with or without a pair of fleece slippers.

The only issue I've had is being barefoot or socked and then ending up doing some chore around the house, and my feet hurting because I need more support. Maybe I should act like the practical grandmas do and wear athletic shoes with everything.

I also had a bit of an epiphany in the last few months, when I discovered that it IS possible to be comfortable and presentable at home. Who knew? :) I used to have pretty much three main wardrobes... work, home, and casual going out (evenings weekends). But now the lines are blurring - I've discovered some work clothes that I don't want to rip off when I walk through the door at the end of the day. And casual clothes I'm happy putting on first thing on a Sat morning. Even some jeans, now that BF's and slouchy skinnies, and spandex are part of the denim world. It's great!

In terms of footwear, I've worn Birks at home for decades. Still doing that. And sometimes big fuzzy slippers with my hang out clothes.

I don't wear shoes in the house, so it's cashmere-blend socks for me. Alternatively I have footed fleece leggings which work under the EF leggings. If I need to pop outside, I just pull on my booties.

When it gets milder, I'll be pulling on the slip on Trouve's... I think it was Karnymk who discovered these... I ordered a pair too and they fit great!

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/tr.....gory-perso

For ponte knit pants, LOFT has some that are quite reasonably priced.

May I also suggest the EF drapey pants and R&B printed sweatpants jeans?

Other recent finds - on a whim I ordered a bunch of stuff from Old Navy, which has been hit or miss for me in the past, but they offer petites so I figured I'd give it another try. They have some cute shirt dresses and a sweatshirt dress. Can wear now with leggings and later with bare legs.

Fantastic insight! I definitely have a work-from-home capsule and it is changing as time goes on. Just this year I added a casual winter dress and knit skirt. I find jeans comfortable and I wear them a lot, but I do get sick of wearing them all the time.

The footwear issue is an ongoing one for me. I pretty much need slippers because I am always taking them off to curl up on the couch. And then needing to get them on again quickly.

I tried the method of buying some fun flats to wear indoors. Unfortunately, that is much harder for me because flats don't stay on my feet. :(

So sometimes (I confess) I wear some of my outdoor booties in the house. They rarely ever go outside in inclement weather anyway, so the bottoms are pretty clean.

But mostly I am still in slippers in the winter. In summer, sandals work just fine.

Good for you for doing this to feel better working from home. I have a similar lifestyle, working from sewing for clients. I see people at home some days for fittings, so I do need to get dressed and look efficient, approachable etc. I solved my at home shoe problem by looking at online shoe stores and buying some cheap shoes on clearance, solely for indoor use. I now have some ballet flats and some cute ankle boots which are both as comfy as slippers for me and I actually look dressed in a complete outfit. My self esteem is tons better now as well as I feel better catching glimpses of myself in the mirror.

I never would have looked at the EF skirted leggings if it weren't for YLF. So thank you!
Over the past few days, I've been working on my aspirational style descriptors. Last week's descriptors:
Comfortable, warm, lazy, plain, boring classic
Aspirational descriptors:
Comfortable, Cozy, creative professional, approachable expert, interesting, modern classic
The lazy came in because I work from home and go to the gym in the late afternoon. And I hate to "waste" my good, going-out-in-public clothes. So yes, I was one of those people who would be in their pajamas at noon, or would get dressed right into gym clothes. Most work-at-home days I don't see anyone (except my family) and maybe the UPS guy, or neighbors when I run out to get the mail.
The EF Skirted leggings, though ... holy cow. Comfortable, cozy and outside-world appropriate. And now I realize that I need a Work From Home capsule, which I didn't have before. I just had a "casual" capsule that meant jeans, which I find supremely uncomfortable to wear while sitting at my desk all day.
I'm thinking a pair of ponte pants, another pair of the EF skirted leggings (already ordered for $79, thank you, Macy's), and a couple of loose dresses and knit skirts for summer, and I should be all set. I do need some cozy winter sweaters -- longer, tunic length, to wear with the EF skirts. I'm always cold in the house.
But here's a question: footwear. I can't see myself putting on shoes to work at home. My usual is slippers or Uggs, which I wear as slippers. What do the rest of you work-at-homers do about footwear?
