Speaking of arboreal fashion...I have a Halloween costume planned for one of these years. A bright green dress with horizontal ribs 1" apart all the way up/down. The ribs are perfect for clipping sparkly things on. Tall brown boots and my hair in a bun on top of my head so it fits into the spiraling base of a Christmas tree topper!

In addition to being tonal, all the pieces are reading as neutral to me. I do also occasionally wear tonal olive/kale (slightly greener than olive) columns of colour and I’m happy with that too, although I will more often choose not to wear olive footwear but rather brown or burgundy if feeling like some colour.

I love greens but I too would hesitate to mix a bunch of them (that says more about my approach to colors than it does about whether this works.)

No pickle to be seen. Olive looks wonderful on you. Why not wear it?
The different shades of green make a cohesive outfit that is still interesting.

You guys are ALL too sweet, thank you.

LaPed - yes! My grandmother and her 'wise words' have stuck around long after she passed... I DID wear an ivory pullover sweater to coordinate with the cream and black fleece jacket, so I *should* have been in green only from the waist down, but it was raining and cold so I grabbed the waterproof coat as I dashed out. The best laid plans, I guess...
I too would LOVE to read your thoughts on building intentional colour complements.

SarahD8 - I always forget about a bag! I'm not much of a bag fan, preferring deep or interior jacket pockets for valuables. I normally would have grabbed a patterned scarf or something to break up the green, but I don't wear a scarf with the intended fluffy jacket and so, I dashed out without one.

FashIntern - you will be a lovely fruit salad!

Pahaha! You look great. I just refreshed (without posting) my browser after writing what would've been another long post agonizing over the difficulties of building a mix & tonally matching wardrobe, and here you are, doing it by mistake! But I don't want to look like a pickle. I want to look like fruit salad.

Another vote for lovely tonal color combination, not pickle. And oh wow, yes, this ensemble sets off your auburn hair beautifully! (It's actually as if your hair becomes the pop of contrast.)

If the head-to-toe green bothers you, what about seeking out an everyday bag in a color that contrasts but harmonizes with your outerwear? That's what I did with my teal cross-body: with my black coat, it looks more intentional than navy and less blah/blobby than black would; it harmonizes with my periwinkle puffer; and it forms a bright but fun combination with my tomato-red summer rain trench. Maybe cognac or rust for you?

La Ped, I'd LOVE to read your thoughts on small/intentional color complements. I've found myself unwilling to limit my palette as severely as some folks here do, but my intuition is that color complements don't necessarily need to be extensive (at least not in every case) for me to feel like a color has a "presence" in my wardrobe. That's as far as I've gotten though so I'd love to hear what you've worked out.

I think there's enough variation between the three pieces that it does not come off as a pickle costume. And green is so perfect with red hair, I can understand having a wide variety of greens in your closet.

If I'm not careful, I end up in head-to-toe black and navy and I hear my dear grandmother's voice in the back of my head saying, "You look like a bruise!" I think the solution is building very intentional little colour complements so that you always have an accent colour at the ready. I keep meaning to write a post about that but haven't had time.
