Very true, Maya. If people were all that worried about the health of our feet in general, we'd all be sporting orthopedic shoes or New Balance sneakers everywhere we went. Everybody I know regularly wears shoes that aren't that great for your feet (with the exception of my mom who is constantly harping on me about how horrible my comfy Clarks flats are for my feet and how I should have 3 pair of New Balance sneakers - two to alternate days with and one for working out *blech*). That said, even though I own a pair of fake Uggs, I find them horrible uncomfortable without my cushy gel insoles with arch support, and even with that they're certainly not 8 hour shoes.

That's a good point, Maya! Although I don't do any extended walking in my 4" heels or flip flops, many sure do. I don't think people will give up the Uggs until scientists link them to a disfiguring foot fungus.

As someone with naturally flat, pronating feet, I can't understand why anyone who is lucky enough to have arched feet would inflict this misery on themselves. I truly believe if I did not have flat feet, most of my other issues would probably disappear.

That said, I wouldn't gloat too much. Ballet flats are just as unsupportive yet we wear them. Heels over 2" are also terrible for lower body health yet they're dominant in shoe shops. Uggs and flipflops just happen to be hideous, but they are really no worse than most fashion footwear. I personally hate flipflops far more. The hygiene issues gross me out.

I have definitely noticed! When I see that on a young teen I wonder to myself how their parents let them walk around in shoes that clearly don't fit/support... I hope I am a little more diligent as a parent.. it just doesn't seem healthy!

I definitely don't have the spillage problem in my boots, but I think thats because I have worn them soo little in 3 years that they are not broken in in the least bit, so they are still stiff and firm.

I have heard this argument before LOL. Have you noticed that when people walk their foot slips of the footbed and spills over the side of the boot. Not fab!

LOL, I think that article is hilarious... in that it makes me laugh at all the people I see in those damn boots. I have literally seen a pack of 10 teenagers walking down the hall in the mall, and every single one of them is wearing faded jeans tucked into black/brown ugg boots with a hoodie on. I laugh because I don't know if they realize they all look exactly alike, and they look ridiculous!!

Anyway, I do own a pair of UGG-like boots (I bought them from American eagle for a decent penny 3-4 years ago), but I only wear them in dead of winter when I have to run out in multiple feet of snow. Only because they are practical and easy-on... I don't even find them very comfortable. I guess this article explains why

Very interesting -- it reminds me of the flip flop issue of offering no support and being terrible for your feet. Still, no let-up in the wearing of flip-flops so I agree that this will do nothing to reduce Uggs' popularity.

Isabel, that is just insane about the tight jeans. Unbelievable!

Interesting article, I have never understood the attraction of Uggs or the like.

And no, I don't think it will make a difference. Women keep wearing stilettos. Do you remember a few years ago when really low waist pants were in and woman would wear their thongs hanging out ? Neurologists at the time discovered that these tight jeans was causing pressure on the sciatic nerve and causing shooting pain and numbness. My 20 year old niece was living with us then and started complaining of her leg going numb. I suggested she give up the pants for a week to see if her condition improved. She said no way and went to see an orthopedic surgeon - who told her the same thing !!! Well she never gave up the pants !
