From the original post: Do you ever wear a piece you don't like as much but haven't replaced yet with pieces you love?

Um, how about "every day."

You are *so* not alone in this, JG! I am working on the slow process of letting go of those things but, in the meantime, there is a whole dormitory's worth of orphans.

At least now I recognize them for what they are. It sounds like you do too. Eventually, we'll find good homes for them all and only have things in our closets that we truly love.

JG, my suggestion is to put the questionables in a holding zone that’s out of sight. I’m a little more ruthless than Shiny :0)

JG, I think that is a great idea, to separate out in your closet the keepers and the questionables.

I don't have much room in my tiny closet to do that, and I prefer to have my clothes organized by type (for example all silky blouses together and all knit tops together and all wovens together). However I do keep a mental list of the questionable pieces. It's not too hard, because they hang over my head in a cloud of "what was I thinking" guilt. Hee hee.

Then before the season is over, I challenge myself to find a way to wear the questionables at least once, or out it goes. This method works really, really well for me. For example this navy-and-white polka dot blouse recently went from questionable to keeper!
http://s386.photobucket.com/al.....mar_21.jpg

Okay actually THAT blouse got a reprieve last year; it went into storage for the winter. It was only when I took it out again recently that I forced myself to wear it .... or else give it away. I didn't even allow myself to hang it up until I wore it at least once. And then Antje came along with an outfit that inspired me. And now it's got it's own hanger. Yeah!

That's the other thing I do - I only have so many hangers. I have the nice fancy no-slip kind. I splurged on those, before Linens 'n Things went out of business. So much better than wire or plastic. I only have so many of them, so if I want to buy something new, something else has to get the boot. And there is no room for the questionables. They can go into storage purgatory, but my storage is ALSO limited too. In fact, there is now enough room that my DH took over one of my storage tubs.

Well, some days it feels that way & I'm trying to work my way out of it. So, my question is. Do you ever wear a piece you don't like as much but haven't replaced yet with pieces you love? I was just thinking about this as I was picking out an outfit for work tomorrow. We have jeans through 2nd Q right now. So, I had some cream jeans, olive jacket, olive/cream print light weight sweater. Each are ok/fine on their own but no one individuals piece gets me too excited.

So, I thought maybe if I do one with something else I absolutely love. Example: cream jeans with my brown linen blazer & bronze flats and then a fun print/brown blouse under. Still playing but just curious...Or, am I the only one that feels like I have a closet orphanage some days? I have to say today's blog helps put things into perspective!

As I'm working my way out of the orphanage - I've selected one section of my closet that are keepers. You know, the basics that work & the statement pieces that I wouldn't think to get rid of. It's the remaing chunks of the closet sweep I'm still in the middle of I guess.

Anyway, I'm digressing now...
