Great work! It can be hard to let go of things like the ones you donated to the theatre; I'm proud of you for that!

Suntiger, thanks for sharing the thinking behind your edits. I never considered whether any of the items I am eliminating might be good for a local drama departments costume collection, but that’s a wonderful way to make use of items no longer favored.

Those are really beautiful interesting statement pieces so I can understand the urge to hang onto them, but your reasoning is sound and now you have more room for items you'll use. Plus, the theatre company is going to be happy!

interesting how dramatic the items you are passing on are....i see that you said you didn't post the "more boring things", but i wonder what the ratio of dramatic to boring was....

GREAT job! Congratulations.

Buying for one's climate is challenging. It took me several years on YLF before I finally started to grasp that particular lesson.

On a side note, I am a fellow magpie. That is innate. I don't know if we can change or relearn that behavior. But we can be smarter about our purchases.

Best wishes.

My theatrical side comes from my theatrical hobbies (dance, theatre) and former job as a full time musician. Plus, im a lifelong magpie. Sparkly, bright, happy things are much more fun to buy and wear than trying to conform! The bright combinations are a newer development to me, with the availability of more colored bottoms, but it looks right with my coloring-and its fun! Its a way to brighten up but still have the darkness i need for balance.

Re sequins, metallic threads. Nope never found a non itchy version. Theres a reason many similar tops are at consignment shops. The peacock top wasn't itchy, but that has studs not sequins (hard to tell in photo), so daily wear not dressy.

The brocade skirt i actually tried to dye dark green, from spring green. Thats why it looks grey. I need to accept the things i cannot change...some things cannot be dyed (especially blue i leaned last week).

I didn't post the many more boring things that got donated, but as far as special occasion wear its true. I dont need to buy any i can't also wear to work. It will be limited to 1 black and one vivid dress for summer and winter + (hunting) gold or copper sandals, wrap + practical size clutch. And blingy jewelry (waiting for Swarovski to have a sale).
Thats the plan anyway. No guarantees once the holiday wear starts appearing

Such fancy, dramatic clothing! I don’t think there are many of us who could drop off rejects at a theater dept instead of donating to a thrift store.
You often wear bright colors and interesting color combos. Does that fill the desire for drama?

Thank you for posting your progress and thoughts. Good lesson on the sequined top. I have been looking for one that is not scratchy and have failed so far. Both sequins and metallic thread feel like they would be too uncomfortable for even 10 minutes.

Finally got round to the closet edit this weekend. Sad to say several of the things i bought this year were already passed on due to the fabrics becoming too sheer (or me buying without checking against the light). This was mostly in the sleep, casual category but noticing it in my hardworking gym leggings too. Recs needed for substantial leggings that will tolerate jump kicks, hip shimmies, pigeon pose, squats, etc!
More notable passings-on:
Brocade skirt a friend made for me. Worn maybe 5x. Thought id wear to renfaire..which is either dusty or muddy, and you're using portable toilets, and drinking beer..Plus i never found a good partner for it. Donated to local theatre.
Red peacock velvet kimono. Bought on honeymoon nearly 15 years ago. Worn maybe 10x, as totally impractical for my climate and cant be layered over. Also, developed holes. Also now living at theatre.
The sequin top, that would be great for clubbing (im in my 40s, hate crowds, and live 2 hours from any club-aside from dock bars) or new years eve (which is cold, and dark, and i dont like either). Also, its itchy. Buh bye.
The ruffled dress, bought this year on consignment and wore once to jazz concert. Top too tight and requires a slip due to sheerness. Nope.
The peacock tank. Once was a workhorse, but too big now and just too cool toned overall. Tried to overdye it to move the color warmer. Did not work.
The top i made myself with a friend that was teaching me to sew. My machine hated this stretchy fabric, the hem got all bunchy and it came out many inches too big with too big armholes. Considered having a tailor fix it, but decided it wasn't worth it.
And a bonus return. The red Leith skirt that would make me the flamenco dancer emoji personified, and also reminded me of my favorite dress in high school. It came wrinkled, too sheer, and much longer on me than the model. In my car to return tomorrow.
Lessons learned: buy quality, return liberally, and buy for my actual climate and life! To be continued....
