I just read through this thread and it's so interesting to see your evolution, Angie! I think the barrel jeans outfit is my fave (love the trendy shape of the pants with the classic lines of the coat), but they are all fab. And that Yorkie brooch is soooo amazing--I remember it well!

Love your hair, Angie!! I do have a similar cut and color peacoat which I don't wear anymore. It was a great piece when worn with dressy and structured slim cut office clothes for me- so that I was creating a dark and structure column for the colder seasons with it. Think that you are totally right the coat is beautiful but creates too big of a contrast in style, color and newer fashion vibes with your other current items.

That sodding belt And Burberry prices at the moment are especially high. I get the chafing. At least you wore it a lot! Thanks for the kind words, and I'll get the brooch and citron versions out soonest!

As I follow the saga of the Burberry pea coat, I empathize with the experience of a lesson learned. Years ago, I bought a short black Burberry trench that came with a leather plate buckle belt instead of a self belt. I had it tailored, loved it, and wore it a lot. Then the prong on the belt broke. The lesson learned is that a self belt has greater longevity for a wardrobe item I plan to keep for a long time. At some point, I will purchase a new Burberry belt to replace the broken one, but the price point chafes a bit.

I admire that you can approach the learning experience with positivity and gratitude for clarity you have gained. Two thumbs up for the idea of adding the stunning Yorkie brooch and gold boots combo. To my eye, all of the outfits in this outfit lab are terrific, but I enjoy head to toe dark neutrals. I would love to see more photos of the coat paired with citron, the brooch, and the gold boots!

Well, I really like the outfit you don’t, with the white barrels.
I do love the navy pinstripes, legs look so long in those.
I am thinking that what I like is partly my own preferences- I enjoy contrast and tunic length/long over lean.
I also love cat2’s idea of the brooch, your gorgeous Yorkie brooch.
Yorkshire seems to be coming up lately!

Suz, thank you! I can see you wear these outfits! Maybe with your silver or black patent boots You and Brooklyn are on the same brown page. Yes, I have many pairs of toffee pants. Less contrasting than the bright cream, yet still not my favourite. Although, it might grow on me!

JAileen, I know, right? These are not my typical looks!

Dee, “outerwear blazer” is dead right. I like that terminology! It’s also a lighterweight coat I can easily keep one inside, so there you go.

Beautiful navy coat. What a clever hack to pair it with darker bottoms to get the same vibe visually as if the coat was longer. I'm taking notes because this works perfectly! I adore the darker coat and bottoms paired with lighter jumpers and boots. A column of dark is a nice change up once in a while to keep outfits interesting. So glad you're able to find a way to make the Burberry work for you, it's a lovely coat.

I enjoyed this demo of outfit creation with something that’s not getting much wear. The contrast of the rich navy with the little pops of white and bright is really eye catching in the best way. I’m glad you found some ways to wear that gorgeous peacoat when the mood strikes.

The Cat, thank you for your awfully kind words, and fab outfit observations. Much appreciated, and good to know! I see what you're seeing, and it's a lovely alternative perspective. The look might grow on me :)

Brooklyn, thank you! I do love a light and bright palette Yes, I have many pairs of toffee pants and lighter blue jeans. A pair of dark brown suit pants too. Less contrasting than the bright cream, yet still not my favourite. Although, it might grow on me!

Sharan, thanks for taking an interest!

Star, thanks! Makes sense you like the slim silhouette the best - that's your thing! Yeah, you need to like the colour you're creating the column with - and fab you enjoyed the outfit lab.

Cookie, thank you! To answer your question: I like double breasted toppers buttoned up too. I do that when it's colder. That said, about 15 years ago I developed a likeness for DB's OPEN, and now I visually prefer it. I like the lines, boxy width, and maximal placement of the buttons. So do that, weather-permitting. I'll leave Winter skirt wearing you ;)

I don't think I have a favourite dark bottom of the three shown here. I love them equally with this topper.

Kyle, glad this was a helpful exercise, and appreciate the hair love :)

Sal, thank you! Creating a column of colour is a handy technique. You do have to like the colour you are column-ing with though ;)

Irina, with this particular topper, I do! With cropped pants themselves - I don't need to create a longer leg line. I have my limits, I guess - and thanks for the hair love.

Thank you, Slim Cat! Go Team '70s, and thanks for the hair compliment.

Bijou, thank you, and please live!

While understanding that the person who wears the outfit is the one who must like it, I love the brightness of the column of cream, it lights up the entire outfit and shows off your beautiful coloring.
I also love the last outfit. I think I favor relaxed but structured bottoms with the peacoat. I think the cream barrels and the shape of the bottoms in the last outfit seem to taper the slight flare of the coat, although maybe the vibe is more casual.

IIRC, you have a fun brooch? Is it big enough to stand out on your coat? That might add some additional character.

Beautiful coat. I see what you mean, the dark bottom looks are definitely better than the light, even though I like those too. Love the wide flares with the more fitted boot, so sleek looking.
