Thanks @Golfer & @LadyPainter! I guess I'll have to learn to love it even when it isn't blowdried, lol! I tried using a headband as a roller method (no heat) but, whilst it worked, it also gave me lots of frizz lol!

Thanks @HardcoreMom, I'll just have to take it step by step. I don't have a particularly small figure though (this haircut makes me look a lot slimmer lol!) so I think that bigger earrings helo balance out my body a little. Smaller earrings still get lost in the curls, lol!

And yes @Momo, it's almost like the haircut lends a little gamine playfulness to my outfits now (so long as I dress in fitted clothes, otherwise it starts to look sloppy, lol). It also reveals more of my neck & shoulders, so different necklines now look more flattering than they used to!

Also, regarding makeup, you look lovely without it. Another area for experimentation. I agree that accenting your eyes more would probably make a big impact, and if you do a little at a time, you'll still look like "you" to yourself.

The cut looks fab on you. My curly hair has been every length possible, from down my back to pixie, and the amount of curl does vary by length. I would do a little experimenting; if you have a diffuser, try using that to dry your hair. It will leave more of the curl intact, and give you more styling options.

I think that earring size is also a factor of the size of your frame. Delicate jewelry tends to look better on smaller frames, whereas it might get lost on a larger frame. That said, wear what makes you happy. Happy ladies are the prettiest ladies.

Your haircut is sooo cute! As others have said, it has a '20s flapper vibe to it, but is still very contemporary.
It looks like you can style it both with your natural curl and by blow-drying it straight/wavy--awfully fun to have that flexibility.

I'm still struggling with how to style my hair, unfortunately Should I create a new thread, or just post about it here?

I curled the front of my hair using the headband method overnight &, whilst it gave nice curls, I didn't put any product in & therefore got fluffy big barrel curls instead of nice, 50s housewife ones. I need to find good products (& a hairdryer with a diffuser), but don't know what to do in the meanwhile!

Lol, no, I would not say the Indian subcontinent is Southwest! South Asia, as you mention, is the phrase I would use. Sadly, you are most likely correct that the US is too backwards to put a Pakistani woman (or man, for that matter) on the cover of a magazine right now, at least in a positive way.

@Violettt my hair is naturally jet black. Like, black black. I tried to dye it once & it took somewhere between 8-12 hours in the salon, lol! I've had grey hairs since I was 16, though, so I've been trying (& failing) to find a sufficiently natural looking black dye to cover my greys. Most black dye that dark comes out with a blue sheen or flat look to it, lol. O

Lol @FashIntern I noticed that one of your links was for a Southwest Asia map. I'm not sure my ethnicity counts as that since I'm Pakistani, but I know in America they often lump us in with the Middle East. But they don't lump India in with the Middle East, even though they like to lump us with India, lol! That's why I say I've never seen my ethnicity represented somewhere positive like a fashion publication before :P

Usually I just say I'm South Asian - much easier to avoid the controversy, lol!

You’ve mentioned your ethnicity and your culture in this thread. Would I be on the right track to guess Southwest Asia, near Iraq or Georgia? I have Libyan friends and Somali friends from as far South as Tanzania who use kohl.

So sorry if I've missed anyone else's comments, btw - I wasn't expecting this thread to be so popular, lol!

For those of you saying you'd like to paint me or that I look like an actress/ Vogue model, I'm very flattered lol! Thank you - feels good to hear that when I'm doubting myself! Don't think I've ever seen a painting of someone who looks like me before... or a film... or magazine spread (certainly not someone of my ethnicity at least, lol!)

As for there never being such a thing as 'too' big earrings... I have a few pairs that are literally shoulder length (or below). Whilst they weren't so noticeable with my previous lion's mane, that might be a liiiittle bit too noticeable here, lol!

And for the comments about popped collars, I've added some more photos with my coat so you can see what I mean about it having a 'villain' collar, lol. Is it too much, with the scarf & glasses? Also excuse the tired face - it's been a long day at work, lol!

@Sterling it feels great - I'm really happy that the hairdresser understood what I meant by not wanting a 'poofy' look at the ends. Instead of giving me the classic blunt/ rounded cut, he's made it a little shaggy at the edges so it doesn't look too prim or ageing on me. The biggest challenge so far is not having the right products to style it out here - I used to just condition my hair when it was long, but otherwise leave it alone. Now I have to fuss with my hair every morning, lol!

Anyway most of the curly hair products I've found out here are either too heavy, too expensive or full of silicones etc. Hopefully I'll find something before the humidity comes back - otherwise I might have to visit home (the UK) sooner than expected, lol!

Bold text—if you’re on your phone, you have to use html to tag. Before the thing you want bold/italicized/underlined, type a b/I/u in pointy brackets. After it, type the same thing with a /before the letter (inside the bracket).

If you’re on a computer, you can highlight it and click the letter at the top of the box you type in. You can also put links in that way. I’d like to know the html code for links.

Yes @RachyLou that's part of the reason why I cut my hair - I was sick of the headaches (I couldn't leave clips in for too long otherwise gravity would pull my hair & make it even heavier than it already is). I was also sick of constantly losing stuff in my hair (headphones, hair ties, combs) & getting my hair stuck in everything (very painful when it gets caught in a zip or wrapped around buttons!) Not tô mention that my hair was thick (it's been thinned out now), so it used to take 5-6 hours to air dry & over an hour to blowdry straight. I go to the gym regularly & really don't have time for that, lol!

I agree - the women in @RunCarla's all look so effortlessly stylish! My style isn't so tomboy though, so I'm struggling with making my look more trendy instead of twee (I don't wear poofy tulle or anything lol, but it's still a challenge to tread that line between feminine & masculine!)

(PS - I see some people 'tagging' other members by making their names bold, instead of using an @ symbol like I do. Is there a trick to make the bold appear?)

Your haircut is wonderful. I love the pictures that RunCarla shared. That girl managed several different looks, all great. I can see you doing this. It will take awhile to get used to the new length, but it looks more stylish and fun than the long hair.

Your haircut looks fantastic! I like it every which way and it doesn't have to look exactly the same every day. Also the curl level will vary with lots of factors. Enjoy - you are gorgeous!

Wow! Just gorgeous!

Does your head feel light? When my hair is long, the weight makes my back hurt.

Finding a curly hair hairdresser in Hong Kong sounds like a challenge! Maybe you could use a satin cap or do rag now that your hair’s shorter?

Haha the funny thing is that my own mother has curly hair, but she doesn't know how to look after it (or mine!) She doesn't believe me when I say brushing it so frequently isn't good for it - that's why I was surprised that I could run a comb through my tresses easily now, lol!

Yes, I think I'm going to have to make some adjustments to my routine - I've been sleeping with the plopping method (cotton t-shirt wrapped on my head), but there's not not enough hair right now to keep the t-shirt up, lol! It's such a shame, since I had literally JUST started to feel comfortable with myself out here (finding a curly hairdresser in Hong Kong definitely helped, lol!)

Crazy how less (hair) is more (prep time). I’m sure you’ll fall into a routine with it soon. What an adventure you’re already having with it!
When my son’s baby hair grew out and his curls grew in, I had my own “hairy” adventure, so was very glad to find that website! I’m glad you already know it.
I think the earrings & scarf look great.
