My coloring begs for cool colors so I have never owned a coat or top in camel or beige but a scarf or one of the stylish faux fur neck warmers in a more complimentary color may be a solution. Keep hunting and playing with options because that perfect trench coat you want is out there! Nordstrom's seems to have a constantly changing inventory of jackets and coats.

I think beige is a bit like blush - if you find the "right" shade it can work but if it's slightly too yellow or too cool or too warm for your skin tone, not so much. I recently added this camel (beige) sweater blazer and love the color for it's warm undertone.

Oh, yes, Taylor is right! The only one way I can imagine myself wearing a beige trench is if it a Burberry:-) and with a column of black underneath!

Beige is really not flattering on me but I did however invest in a beige Burberry trench that I LOVE because it satisfies my need to wear all black with black boots underneath and throw in a bright bag .
But ya ... beige blah is a real thing

The girl explains how she would wear it--with cropped pants! Because sure, that is what one wears in the rain--cropped pants. Not to mention, she didn't even mention the rain. Not for nothing but this is sort of the point of a water-resistant coat for me!

Thus beige with black pipping can work but I rather choose black or navy. Would like one white, too-but never find.(Angie has it!:-)) .

Just because "they" say its "something every woman must have" doesnt make it so! Ive lived happily for over 40 years without one-especially since traditional trenches have no hoods...
That being said, i do think a neutral rain coat is essential, mine are black and this copper one.
Another issue is in rainy weather, colors often look different-cooler and more muted (copper coat skews pinker). Light colors are especially prone in my experience.
But yes, having a flattering scarf color can help, but the overall vibe may not be what you want as the coat is a big surface area.

After years of trying, I finally decided to banish khaki from my wardrobe. I can’t find a tone that works, and the only way a beige trench worked for me was to add in a bright scarf or wear high necks, which didn’t make sense for me,

So last year I bought a white trench coat. I was worried about dirt and stains, but it turned into the versatile go-with-everything topper I had always wanted, if khaki/beige isn’t your neutral, I vote find your own best color.

Well I could be the poster child for the phrase "soul sucking beige"; warm tones general are bad on me, and beige is the worst. And yet, my trench coat is beige, and I wear it all the time. I actually gave away a black one because I never wore it (made me feel like a stormtrooper).

I'm sure it helps a lot that it's a cool tone, really a light shade of taupe. And I always have an intervening layer of a more flattering colour at the neckline whenever I wear mid-tones, because i need contrast. If I don't have a collar or highish neckline, usually in white, black,
or navy, I will add a scarf or bandanna.

Even before I found the right-for-me shade of taupe, though, I was able to make it work. I realized this when I was given a trench style coat in a warm beige -- that had a removable lining in bright red, that also framed the collar. That changed everything. When I realized that the bright at the neck let me get away with it, I found myself a scarf that combined black, white, red, and beige-taupe, and wore it with the coat in terms seasons too warm for the lining.

So: by all means, enjoy a coat in pink or teal or navy or whatever colour brings you delight. But if, like me, your little preppy-classic heart beats for a traditional trench coat in traditional beige: yes, it can be done.

My most worn trench is a sort of dark metallic grey EF coat from a thrift store. Second is a bright pink, also thrifted. Both are roomy enough in the shoulders for layers under them. Trenches come in many colors. Do not settle for a color you don't feel wonderful wearing. If you love the cost except for the color, scarves would be the easiest way to get a different color near your face. You can get different weights and fabrics and have fun with it

I have a beige wool coat and like to brighten it up by wearing it with red and other berry colours or blues that puts a bright colour next to my face (such as a t-neck or crew neck sweater).

However, since buying that coat I have bought brighter coats in more flattering colours and the beige coat is not worn nearly as much as the colours that I prefer. I doubt if I will ever buy something in beige again, so my initial reaction is to say pass on the beige coat and buy something in a colour you love and feel great in.

As fit is the most important for you I would try all the trenchcoat colors you come accross if they fit the othrr requirements. You might unexpectedly find a color that you enjoy better .

Ha, my most-worn trenches are a bright green floral and a hot pink version, both of which I got on eBay. I did buy a barely beige one last year because the other were not long enough for a heavy rain, but I agree, the beige needs a standout scarf and purse.

The reason I am trying to work around an "okay" color is for me, the FIT of the coat needs to be perfect. I may not have a slew of beige color options once I find the perfect fit. It's true I'll probably find black, but I didn't want a black coat.

I also want a coat with a detachable hood and one in a water-resistance material, so.....

I like the colour beige, especially in knitwear and trenches. But I don’t look great in beige. But as Cardiff girl says, you can wear scarves and more makeup and that works wonders.

I often wear ivory (also doesn’t look great on me) with a scarf and that works really well.

It’s funny because when I saw your title my first thought was ‘not the thing it used to be’. Still a classic, but not one I actually see that often. Navy, black, olive all seem like great neutral alternatives, along with more colourful/individual options. If I ever buy one it will be navy, because I love them in navy, and have never liked beige at all.

I agree with Synne, it dependsof the undertone of the beige. That being said it can be rine consuming finding the right one.
I personally wear scarves to brighten up or create interest in some or my outfits, however I like scarves. If you are just trying to mitigate teh color of the trenchcoat with scarves if you don't usually wear them it defeats the purpose IMO.
Have you considered other trenchcoat colors?

I felt like I NEEDED a trench based on those lists of things we should supposedly have. But like you, I also look horrible in beige, and couldn’t find an affordable in a camel. I find the weather that warrants a scarf is often too cold for a trench - then again, I don’t wear many lightweight scarves.

I ended up getting an olive green one and a navy blue one. They brighten my face and don’t require any extra pieces to make them look right. Plus, they are neutral enough to go with nearly everything I have.

I say if you feel you must have a trench, find one in a flattering color, else you may never reach for it and wind up with an orphan.

Life is too short for colors you find unattractive. I have a teal trench coat that I love, and have never felt the needs for a standard black or khaki/beige one, even if some people consider that a staple. That said, a scarf is a great way to change up the colors of an outfit that are close to your face. I’ve been adding a few scarves recently and have been enjoying how they can pull together a color scheme, and complete different look, with the same base pieces.

Those lists of thngs we supposedly should have, don’t necessarily work for us. I don’t need a trench because it isn’t warm enough and it doesn’t rain here.

When I lived in Houston, where it does rain, I had an olive trench coat. The color really worked for me because my eyes are hazel.

Maybe it's the nuance of beige that is wrong for you. Beige can be a spectre of colours, warm and cool. I look horrible in yellowish, warm beige colours. I feel much better in cool, grayish beige colours.

Well— I have kept a sweater of 2 that were not optimal “ face colors” but worked extremely well with other items due to color or style. A sort of camel combined with scarves in prints with berry colors or leopard is one example.

I also would like a “ light neutral “ trenchbut have not found “ my” version of beige or camel, even gray, where both color and style work. I have trench style coats in raspberry and a navy- black plaid because the colors are good WITHOUT adding something but also work with scarves.

There are some version of khaki that would work ok for me so I still look, but I am resisting buying any color that I think looks truly bad as-is, because I want to be able to wear my trenches various ways, in milder weather and wear open and for an “ effortless” look.
