Gigi, I can manage some very casual waist surrendering styles if all three of the following conditions are met: (1) the top has a pattern that emphasizes the vertical direction (2) ends no lower than mid thigh and (3) has an asymmetrical hem or high side slits or something like that to break up the bottom hem so it’s not just one big block.

I think that 8 hourglass has their widest point at the hips whereas an X hourglass is wider at the top of the thigh... I could be wrong.

I think 8's can gain weight at the hip - "muffin top"/love handles" but I think other shapes also can too.

There are so many variables with body shapes and also preferences that it is hard to give advice. For me the biggest things to look for are
- length of top - not too long or not too short
- top not being too boxy (a drape works well)
- not having sleeves that end at my bust
- not wearing wide belts at the waist
- being cautious about tucking tops - it works if the fabric is drapey or fine or if the contrast is low.
- dresses are often easy

Yes, I have an 8 shape, and I gain weight in the upper hip (love handles) and rear end.

There is a lot of information on Imogen's Inside Out blog for 8 shapes: https://insideoutstyleblog.com.....-bodies.ht.

I find that defining the waist works really well for me; I look atrocious in waist-surrendering styles. I look very good in bootcuts. If I wear wide-leg pants or a maxi skirt, it needs to be a straight cut without extra volume at the bottom, which can sometimes be hard to find.

For the 8 shape they tend to have hip dips? And does the 8 shape gain weight in the hips and butt? Because i am a 8 shape when i gain weight it tend to have love handles. My measurements are shoulder= 40, waist= 29 high hips=40 lower hip= 39. And I would love suggestions on how to dress a 8 shape.
