I would try an insert too. Mine are roomy but not overly so. I'm usually a solid 7 with feet on the wider side of average.

OMG I can't believe I am about to make a 20 year old recommendation but when I wore them last I remember that they broke in and stretched out to conform to the shape of your foot. Unless they have changed their leathers or production methods (and they may have!?) I would size down slightly so that they are not so loose in the width. Mine were always slightly tight in the beginning and then felt like slippers after a short break in period. Make sure you ordered a UK size 4/US size 6. Sometimes in kids shoes I have to size down to 3.5 (~5.5 women's) because they are cut wider. If they are using kids or men's size charts for the unisex styles (like the gibsons), typically those shoes are cut wider than traditional women's sizes.

I think as long as your foot doesn't slide back and forth, it should be ok. It's a matter of your feet adjusting to a different feel too.

MIne went back for that reason also. I am not sure if sizing down would have helped. I think either an insert or thick socks would have helped. I ended up returning primarily because I felt the 20 eyelets hit me at a weird spot on my calf. That was really the main reason. I hope you get this sorted out, they are right up your alley!

Mine are a half size too big which for me meant no real breaking in aside from a little ankle discomfort. I love the wiggle room it also means I can wear thick socks when it's really cold and not have squished toes. Yay for docs! Mine are easily 12+ hour boots x

This is what happened with my purple docs. Long. I think I may put an insert in to see if it helps, but I can live with it. I don't like tight shoes.

I think that's okay as long as you don't slide around in them, but I know what you mean about your toes being in an echo chamber. I also had more than enough room in the toes with the ones I sent back, I'm just hoping the bigger size isn't that much bigger in the toes and lengthwise. I really only need more width.

I'm looking forward to the pictures!

Denise, they're not even loose, just long. I don't really need a footbed, I think I just need to adjust to the extra toe real estate! Sounds like you think better loose than tight, with which I heartily agree! Thanks.

I have a huge fear of tight shoes. Can you put in a footbed/insole?

Can't wait to see pictures.

of course they are right up my alley stylewise. They do feel a bit roomy in the toe box, which is surprising. Not uncomfortably big or loose, but just strange, like my toes are in a little echo chamber.

I fear that if I size down to a 5, they will be too tight because my feet are wide. My other Docs are all 6 (or Brit size 4), so maybe it's normal with such a rounded toe box? Is it okay for them to be a bit long as long as they otherwise fit?

I know Astrid was planning to size up. Too bad there are no half sizes - these are probably half a size off for me.

What to do, fellow Doc fans?
