Oh wow, you got the best of all with that price match. I did not know that Nordies did that, either.

I think my first ever eBay purchase was a Marc Jacobs top. From China. It was interesting. I do believe it was genuine. The buttons looked right, etc. BUT I think it was a pile of rejects they were selling off. There was something wrong with the fabric and print. It was like what you get when a paper-printer starts to run out of ink. I'm not sure what I did with it. I loved this top and was trying to get duplicates a little late in the game.

I would have gone through all the trouble as well, having the garment feel right is hugely important to me. Glad to hear you got the one that you wanted!

Polyester, spandex, and all the other %ages really make a difference. Luckily I found 1% spandex jeans and they are so much better than the 2%, but also very hard to find. Too much of this stuff added to cotton makes things like jeans feel like being wrapped in Seran wrap when it gets hot.

I'm very sensitive to how clothing feels, so I do believe you that there was a significant difference. I wonder if perhaps there were other small differences too, since the shirts were obviously from two different lots. Maybe the fabric was thicker/thinner, etc.

I have had a similar problem with Old Navy. I tried on some jeans in the store and really liked them, but the rise was a little long, as was the length. I took them home with me to think further on it, but I went online and saw that they had a petite version, which would fix all the problems I'd noticed with fit.

Well, when I got the petite version, I discovered that the fabric content was completely different from the regulars! The regulars were maybe 97% cotton, 3% spandex, while the petites were something like 73% cotton, 25% polyester, and 2% spandex. I HATE polyester in close-fitting clothing like jeans; it makes me sweat. I e-mailed Old Navy, and they basically told me that they have different plants in China making the same kinds of jeans, and they can't guarantee which jeans will have which fabrications. Grrr. So I had to return both pairs of jeans.

I have noticed now at ON that they seem to be putting more poly content into all of their jeans. I wonder if they are cheapening them up. Now even the regulars in the stores have lots of poly.

Gotta love Nordies. I didn't know they would price match.
Yes to your question. That extra % in denim makes all the difference in the world. I love Anthropologie's Pilcro denim, but it comes in all sorts of combinations of cotton, polyester, and elastane. Unfortunately, on their web site they only give the fabric content..not percentage of each so I have to check that in store. My favorite pair are a couple of year old, and are 98% cotton.
Good for you for getting what you wanted.

trying... on "The 1%"

I recently bought this shirt : http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/vi.....n=category at Nordstrom. The drape and feel of it was great but the price was weighing on me, so when I saw it at Macy's for $29.99 I did a happy dance and grabbed the small, but... it felt wrong. Investigating the other shirts on the rack revealed that the shirt comes in a 96% rayon 4% spandex and 95% rayon 5% spandex. Unfortunately both of the smalls in store were of the 4% variety and the sales person could not guarantee that if I ordered one to be shipped it would be the 5% fabric I wanted as both fabrications rung up as the same style. I had to spend 5 minutes explaining to them that there was indeed a significant difference; I'm not sure that they did believe me in the end. Luckily Nordstrom offered to do a price match so all is well.

I'm not sure if the 1% was worth all the fuss I caused (one of the smalls at Macy's was actually was hanging on the wrong rack and the sales person tracked it down for me before I ultimately had to dismiss it) but I am glad I got the shirt I wanted.

What about you? Is there a small difference in a piece of clothing that made a big difference to you?
