Do you roast your Brussels sprouts? In the before days, I made roasted BS for Thanksgiving and fully expected my husband and me to have them to ourselves. But we got hardly any, they were so popular. Even the little kids gobbled them up.

I loved reading everyone's posts - y'all made me hungry (and seriously, I just ate half an hour ago, so step away from the fridge, Mary Beth).

My Thanksgiving was low-key and lovely. It was just me, Mom and Dad. We had a traditional dinner - turkey, and chicken for my mom. (She's allergic to turkey. I tried to tell her we could all have chicken and save her the effort, but she's all about having a turkey). We had mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts for whoever wanted them (NOPE), cranberry, stuffing, and rolls. It was carb-tastic! Dutch apple pie and coffee for dessert. My sister stopped by after, and dug into the brussels sprouts. Seriously. It's like a line drawn in the sand, of Brussels (Dad and Sis) vs. NOPE (me and Mom). We binge-watched holiday movies: The Royal Ballet's Nutcracker, White Christmas, Christmas in Connecticut and Miracle on 34th Street in its original black-and-white rendering. So I feel like I'm already well-ahead of my usual holiday movie-watching.

My mom and I did some antiques store browsing the next day, and Saturday, my dad and I drove to the Gulf Coast to gaze upon an ocean that we agreed was too cold to swim in. Overall, I was so grateful that I got to spend a relaxing and peaceful week with them both, as well as my sister.

The BF opted to stay in Atlanta, because he works remotely, and both internet and phone coverage aren't consistent where my parents live (they're pretty rural). So he went golfing, and went to our neighbors' for a Thanksgiving that was half-traditional, half-Pakistani. They saved me some leftovers and they were sooooo good! So I got a second Thanksgiving, which was amazing!

Going back to the video link I posted... that mock apple pie is definitely on my radar to try. I'm going to do what Amanda Hallay did to her stepson.. serve it and see if anyone notices there aren't any actual apples in it. (you have to imagine the part where I rub my hands together and laugh like a villain).

Our Thanksgivings are usually very traditional with lots of family. We have always alternated between my family and hubby's but with Covid last year and my mom's passing this year that could change, not sure yet. But it is always the traditional foods, with everyone contributing something.

This year we have a family wedding out of state the weekend after so everyone will be traveling out there on various days. We don't leave until Friday so are having just our two sons over. We debated the usual turkey but decided to have lasagna, very un-traditional for us this year :)

Mary Beth, you are innately fun and festive, and I bet your Thanksgiving days and meals are just that. Look forward to seeing what you come up with :)

Everyone's TG sounds fab! A mix of traditional, and untraditional.

We did not grow up with the holiday, and although we have lived in the US for 18 years, it's still foreign to us. That said, we love that it marks the beginning of end of year festivities, and is a time to be extra grateful, generous, and find peace in our hearts.

When we host TG, it's never traditional TG food. We often have Indonesian Rijstafel, actually! Seafood or vegetarian yumminess. Our gatherings are VERY small. No family. Just a few very good friends, and not more than 4 guests plus their dogs. We will be hosting this year, and I'm making roast chicken plus lots of veg and roast potatoes. Cheese platter, olives, and nuts to start. And apple pie a la mode for dessert!

I really love Thanksgiving , and although we are a small gathering of 4 , I work hard to create a beautiful table , along with good food . This year we went rogue and had ribs - along with more traditional accoutrements and my infamous pumpkin pie I did have a lot of discomfort over the meat , but mental fatigue won in the end . They were SO good .

Canadian Thanksgiving was last month. I don’t feel compelled to make a turkey for the day, so this year we had ham, pineapple grilled on the bbq, mashed potatoes, green beans, and apple pie for dessert.

I know all about Mock Apple Pie. It was in my maternal grandmas repertoire, though she had a bounteous Northern Spy apple tree in the middle of her backyard!

Your title to the thread immediately reminded me of this show. It is British, not from the US, but still, I bet a lot of the foods were similar. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00lrmt1

If I make anything for Thanksgiving, it will be just the two of us, so probably Turkey for my son, squash and sweet potato pie for me, maybe Brussels sprouts and rice for us both.

It’s complicated here. My SIL didn’t want to cook a Thanksgiving dinner, and I don’t blame her. I don’t either! However, I offered to host. But my brother is afraid of the possibility of snow and having to drive in it. We live on opposite sides of a mountain pass. He has never lived in snow country.

So, we are you going to have Thanksgiving dinner at … a seafood restaurant! We’re going to see my elderly mother, but won’t have our get together until Friday. I feel relieved that I’m not responsible for the whole shebang.

Our family won’t gather again this year, so just me and my mother. She has sent around Harry and David pears. Then she announced she was going to get a mail order turkey in pastry for us. Then she announced she wasn’t and that she had ordered a turkey for me to roast. She is quite busy now buying things for me to cook. Lololol! I suppose I have to clear off my dining table now…

It was supposed to be a very quiet dinner with my mom and sister coming to see our new place. It has turned into a larger, but still casual family dinner. My dad is now home from the skilled nursing facility, so they are bringing him in his wheelchair. We also are having all 4 of SoontobeMr.CS's children with us (plus the eldests boyfriend). The table only seats 4...we will pull my dads wheelchair up to it. The kids will have to eat in shifts at the barstools, with the quicker eaters going first lol
We're making turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatos and gravy, stuffing, rolls, and a relish tray with olives and pickled baby corn. Dessert will be pumpkin or pecan pie with whipped cream or ice cream.
Our big goal is to be unpacked by then and find a couple chairs for the living room so there's somewhere to sit!

This just showed up in my YouTube feed - Ultimate Fashion History recreated a Depression-era 1930s dinner. It’s quite interesting, and fun, and now I’m thinking I might try something similar next week. If my mom will allow it, because I’ll be at my parents’.
