And while I don't condone looting and violence on the part of the protesters, I do understand it. What have the protests after other deaths accomplished? Tamir Rice, Dontre Hamilton, Eric Garner, Ezell Ford, Philando Castile, Michael Brown? There were an average of three people killed by police EVERY DAY last year, and black people are far more likely to be killed by police despite their population percentages being significantly lower in most states/cities. Peaceful protests have accomplished nothing.</p> <p>From "China-virus" to "build the wall" to "when the looting starts, the shooting starts" and references to "vicious dogs", leadership in this country has been dog-whistle central, fanning the flames of division and hatred. I don't have the answers, but it is plain to see that doing what we have done for the last several years has not solved anything.&nbsp; </p> <p>Interesting tangent. All staff in our building are required to take non-violent crisis intervention training. We are taught which methods of restraint are allowed and which are not, and we are not allowed to violate protocol - EVER. Having someone's hands behind their back while they are on their stomachs is a recipe for disaster, even without further brutality and restraint.
