I do feel more lighthearted and freer at age 55 than I ever did at any other age! Every decade has had it's advantages and challenges. I have enjoyed them all, but I feel now that I am in my 50's, I have a better idea of what's important in life and what's not than I did in my younger years. Like Joy, I really try not to sweat the small stuff anymore. I know my likes and dislikes and feel that I can be more selective now. I feel that after years of experimenting with fashion, I have a better sense of my personal style and can expand on it. I don't feel old, and I certainly don't want to dress old or act old! Taylor was right on the money when she stated that there is a certain amount of being comfortable in your own skin. Fifty is fab, and like Taylor, I am grateful for life's blessings!</p> <p>Ruthe - It's great to hear from you and you should join in more often! I have and still continue to be impressed by everyone. I am never too old to learn. I am gratified to have found such a caring and loving community of women, age not withstanding. Every decade faces their own unique set of problems and I'm not immune, but age doesn't seem to be a factor on this blog. It's refreshing. I don't see myself as OLD or ready for the 'funny farm', but how I enjoy hearing the opinions of the younger generation. They keep me from getting too set in my ways :). I agree with Taylor, I also feel more 'chick' friendly without being threatening. I think I have become more tolerate because some things just aren't that important.<br /> Life is good. Live it good. I do feel lighthearted!!</p> <p> I can't speak for everyone over 50 but there is a certain amount of *comfortable in my own skin* feeling. We sort of *must* accept the many changes your body goes through. We are much more *chick* friendly I think...the petty women stuff takes a back seat because I have learned how ugly and unproductive that can be. I am very accepting of all women... young and old because we are no longer threatened by that popular girl...I want to be her friend...and pick our battles carefully. Facing getting older and all the changes it brings is more doable when I think of it as an opportunity and adventure than letting it get me down or giving in to the "when I'm old I'll wear purple and a red hat" and be silly attitude.
