Goodness, which bomber would you like to hear about?

The black quilted one (old), the navy wool one with the Breton striped lining (very old), the BR olive one with the bright orange lining (brand new, Angie pick)?

Apparently I'm a fan.

I have these two bombers - the pink is a wool bomber with leather cuffs and is extremely warm. The black and white is silk and was a souvenir from a trip to Japan - the embroidery is a Hello Kitty riding a white dragon.

I have quite a few - a couple of florals like slim cat, a bright quilted, a shiny olive, a houndstooth… it occurs to me I don’t quite differentiate between a varsity and a bomber…

I have a light grey bomber (almost silver) which now looks fab with my 'new' silver hair. I have a red/black plaid one that is more autumnal. I wear mine with jeans predictably and do need to consciously feminize with jewellery and make-up or tends to look too masculine for my liking. My grey bomber looks fab with my snake-print skinnies, which are white with a light grey and taupe snake print. I have a cognac teddy jacket in a bomber style which has 100 plus wears on it. I love it for being cozy but not for silhouette. Thanks to the waistband and bulking I look like a bear in it - not a look I am aiming for

I have a plaid wool bomber from Trina Turk that I wear maybe once or twice a year in the Fall. Maybe that’s because we have short Fall seasons and I soon need a heavier jacket.

Most of mine are in Finds below. Blue velvet Scotch & Soda — I adore the color and fabrication but struggle to style it a little bit because of the shape. But when I make a little effort, I enjoy it.

The patterned Ted Baker was a deeply discounted piece impulse buy — again, not exactly a workhorse, but I enjoy it when I do wear it.

I have the same black embroidered Zara bomber that Carla had. It was a workhorse for a few years and has since fallen out of rotation, but I keep it because it’s still in good shape and I love the pattern. I feel like it may have another go in my rotation at some point, so it stays. It’s a remarkably well-made piece for the price.

The metallic Zara is another really nice piece for the price, but it’s been in and out of my holding zone. For some reason, when I go to wear it, it feels too maximal. I’m drawn to these metallic jackets and then don’t wear them. What’s up with that?

I have another floral one by Leitmotiv that’s very lightweight and very cropped and only works with a few outfits but it’s perfect with them, and I love the pattern so it stays. It gets worn in warm weather with jumpsuits or a column of black underneath.

So, none of my bombers are workhorses. Not the way my utility, denim, or moto jackets have been. They are, however, fun for a change of pace when I want that color or pattern. For a basic solid jacket, I’m far more inclined to choose a different shape that’s easier for me to work with — a tailored jacket or blazer. Bombers are always a little tough for me because I prefer to wear jackets open, and a lot of bombers sort of poof around the midsection when worn that way, because of the elastic waist. Or if I close them, the elastic inches up on my body because of my wide hips. The Ted Baker jacket here does that the least, so it tends to get worn more than the others.

@Stag Oh I remember that bomber in your photo - was that the one you were contemplating having shortened (into a more cropped length)? If so, was it successful (to rettach the welted hem)?

I ask because I've seen some unique silk bombers but am unsure whether it would be feasible to shorten them...

Over time I have had a number of bombers, but one was too heavy, one seemed to shiny, and one was too black.
The last find is something I picked up recently for an awards banquet, it’s dressy(ish) due to the beading, and really warm, as it’s super padded. It’s the kind of thing I’ll probably wear once a year, but will wear it for years and years.

I have 3, or maybe 4: an LLBean espresso brown leather one from the early 90s that’s a pretty good winter jacket (but the cropped length doesn’t work when it’s really cold); a bright blue, black & yellow plaid flannel one that I got with matching pants sometime between high school & college. I’ve enjoyed it this late winter/cold spring, but haven’t worn the pants; a red plaid one that I lemminged from Ada soon after joining ylf. We lived in Florida & I was working on a “pretend it’s winter” wardrobe. It works well here in Berlin too. I’m not sure if the purple varsity-style jacket I got this winter counts as a bomber.

I wear very little plaid; these jackets and my yellow rain jacket are maybe half the plaid in my wardrobe.

My most worn bomber is a thrifted brown leather WWII era flight jacket. My DS II found it in the closet and begged me to give it to him. I did. I like quilted bomber jackets for the warmth and have several bombers that are sping or fall weight…a beige lace one, a floral on black quilted silk one. A black cord one with matching pan and more. I spread out with jacket styles and have 3 moto jackets and 5 blazers, maybe more if I count print jackets of that style,

I didn't think I had a bomber jacket (my HEWI is a cropped one in a versatile colour), but @Gryffin's thread got me thinking that maybe my leather jacket with a welted hem technically counts as a leather bomber?

I own two, both bought 2016 at two different Designer Garage Sales which are often associated with NZ Fashion Week, the first was in March that year and the second in August at NZ Fashion Weekend. Both were on excellent sales. The floral one is one of my best buys ever, $30, now worn 94 times in warmer seasons as a topper. The gold one was $40 and has had 35 wears also in warmer seasons. I think they add interest, fun and dressiness without being too precious.

From today’s blog post, I am curious to know about your bombers!

This is the closest I have to a bomber, but I reach for it A LOT.

It goes with everything and is way warmer than my puffer (thanks to the fleece lining).

What bomber do you wear most? How are you wearing it?
