I like Japanese towels that are small and dry quickly. I think they are made of a manmade fabric. They are impossible to find locally, as are anything not cotton.

Oh my goodness, I really posted and ran. It’s been an overfilled week. Thank you so much for responding.

Sal, thanks for recommending them for beach use.

SarahD8, thanks for letting me know why you like them, and that your DH does not

Sisi, thanks for your endorsement.

RobinF, thanks for sharing your experience of using them.

Irina, thanks for sharing that you use like and use them.

L’Abielle, I think the material may be different but it sounds like the kikuyi may be used in even more ways.

Kathie, I like the idea of using them for the beach and maybe for summer.

Thank you all for your input. I will buy one each for my DH and me. Sounds like they are definitely great for the beach, and a maybe for everyday use.

I bought one for the beach/pool, and really like it. La'Hammam brand, bought at a boutique near me. I hadn't thought of using them for every day towels, but it's tempting, especially in the summer, when I don't feel the need for a heavy towel.

Are they anything like Kikuyi, the striped Kenyan cloths that are used as towels, blankets, wraps, and baby carriers? My daughter brought us each one home from Africa. They are wonderful as towels/hair wraps for going to bed with wet hair. They dry very efficiently (I use mine at the beach). Alao doubles as grocery bag if you forget yours.

I have some and like them. I use it for the pool, beach and after bathing. I’m replacing my usual towels with this kind. I like that they take less space and more manageable. Also drying faster when I dry them on a line outside in the summer. I have never bought it online, though.

We have some that we used for a while - maybe six months. I could never get used to them. I didn't feel like I got completely dry. They do dry out quickly which is nice. We reverted to "regular" bath towels and save the Turkish ones for the beach.

What do you mean by Turkish towel? Do you mean those thin cotton towels with fringes that seem to have become popular lately?
For my birthday, at the beginning of Summer, a friend gave me as a gift a beach towel made like this. I find it wonderful. I have been using it a lot, for the beach, as a blanket on the chaise-longue, and then at home for the shower. When I checked the label I found out it is Made in Turkey. No wonder, I have always found textiles made in Turkey of excellent quality.

I like hammam towels a lot! I have one that I use when I shower at the gym after lap swimming. I like that Turkish towels are more compact than looped terry cloth. I find that they dry faster. And because the fabric is thinner they are easier to manipulate with my small hands, meaning that I am more effective at actually drying myself off. And, because they're larger I get better body coverage when walking around the locker room in my towel!

I would use them for our regular bath towels if it were up to me, but my husband isn't on board.

The thing I don't like about them is the tassels on the edges, which I find fussy.

Mine is from Amazon but I could not tell you the specific brand/seller at this point.

I have a turkish towel that I use at the beach. It might take a bit less space than a normal towel. But the main advantage is that it doesn't hold the sand - it is easy to shake off. It dries quite quickly too.

I would recommend for this use but not so much as an everyday towel.

I’m getting lots of Facebook ads for Turkish towels at the same time that I would like to downsize the amount of space my towels take up in the linen closet.
Do you/have you used them? Do you like them? How can you tell a good one online? Any particular brands you recommend? Should I only get them for travel or at the beach as I like feeling cozy and use pool towels every day? Do you like something else entirely?
Thanks for your time and advice.
