The link didn't work, Jules. Can you tell me the name of the article?

They get expenses and a car, and temporary quarters depending on where they are assigned. Last week they were practicing taking blood. (I could never be an MD.) Recently they jogged through Penrice and then went to Wanera Wine Bar for dinner. I'll have to Google to see where that is.That was last week though. They are hiking and walking a lot and have posted photos of spiders and kangaroos.

They seem to be having a fabulous time.

I spent a couple of years in Argentina, so I can identify with them when they tell me Orion is upside down!

I was there twice about ten years ago and enjoyed it very much. It's a small city but like a lot of Australian cities seem to have more people walking around than in the US and therefore more energy. Could be also because their university is located downtown. Good art gallery, good wineries in the countryside. On our first visit we stayed in Glenelg (at the beach) and took the tram in.

One of my favorite places was the Central Market -- maybe this is where the cherries were from. Beautiful produce that just make you want to eat healthily. There was a group of kindergarten students touring the market and practicing their math, very cute, and wearing their private school uniforms which made them look even more cute.

There's also the National Railway Museum at Port Adelaide, which, if you're a train fanatic, is very good.

I've been there a few time, more for work but once for pleasure!
I would avoid high summer, as it gets VERY hot. Well into the 40s celcius. It's not humid, but a dry heat.
It is, as others say, a quite small city, not like Sydney or Melbourne. My hubby used to work there often, and he would say you could stroll across the main roads of the CBD in peak hour without getting hit by a car, which makes it rather quaint to us! It is easy to get around.
Glenelg is lovely, a short tram ride away.
The wineries are also great. We once also went houseboating about an hour out of Adelaide, on the Murray River. It was extra-ordinarily peaceful, just so lovely.
If you are coming all this way, you might consider a few days in Sydney - maybe I'm biased but it's a great city :)

I have only spent a few days there about 20 years ago. It is a nice, small city with lots of the older style buildings still there. Worth a visit.

Sally has given you some more good advice about the surrounding area.

We need to hear from Lantana - she lives in the same state.

I have visited once, and my sister visits regularly for her in-laws.

Adelaide feels like a small city - easy to get around, good access to the beaches and to the outdoors. Close by are lots of wineries - the Barossa, Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills, Maclaren Vale. The wine is amazing and some of the food too. The coast is very pretty indeed- be careful where you swim though.

The market is great - lots of tasty food.

Near by is the Murray River - water is hard to come by in Adelaide - you can do trips on the Murray - it has a certain beauty - we did one further upstream and had a ball. It is a large slow muddy river with gum trees.

Other places worth a visit are Wilpena Pound (gorgeous) and Cooper Pedy (weird).

I can't talk about shops or particular places to eat as it was a long time ago.

Lots of sports on offer - cricket and Aussie Rules are both huge in Adelaide.

I think a rental car would be useful.

I loved it and would happily go back!!

I have a very good friend from there. She lived here in the states for a few years but moved back when her mom got sick. To her it is home so very biased. She does say "it is not San Francisco". Not sure if this is any help.

What can you tell me about Adelaide, Australia?

My nephew and his wife are both MDs and have been there a couple of weeks now. They are on a two-year exchange program--he's been an urgent care doctor and she has been in family practice. We are talking about visiting them in a year. They have been in a training program since they arrived.

Today on Facebook she posted a glass bowl of beautiful perfect cherries. (Thanks to the drought our cherry crops here weren't abundant.)

So I've Googled and read about the area, but I wonder if anyone can tell me what it is like to visit and live there? I'll see my sister on T-Day and will find out more about what they are doing, but for now I am curious as to what it would be like for a 30-something professional couple.
