Jenny- if we had more than one computer in the house that would definitely be my rule. My hubby has a work computer that nobody can touch, but this one is the family computer. I swear though.... one more computer crash and my kids are out on the streets!

Kim - my Boy Toy bought me a new laptop for Christmas and I made it known immediately that NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE but me is allowed to touch it. Period. My kids have to use my old laptop if they want to get online when they're here.

I don't even let Boy Toy use it. I'll look something up for him and then show him the screen, but I don't even like doing that because he always touches it and drags his finger across the monitor. Blech!

Vani- you are a gem. Thanks so much for the input. I did that and it showed that it was already set to the 60Hz... but I rechoose that anyway. I do think changing to the resolution to 1280x960 has helped (or maybe my eyes are just adjusting... who knows.)

My boys think I'm crazy to blame them for my computer woes, but honestly everytime they download something it messes with my computer. Am I right? Or crazy...

Kim, it seems like a display driver compatibility issue between the computer and the monitor. The computer seems to be sending a signal to the monitor that it doesn't like very much. I did a little research and seems like setting the display refresh rate to 60Hz might be a solution. Give it a shot and let me know. A quick pointer on how to get to the display settings screen: http://www.itechtalk.com/thread2605.html

Seems like this issue is common to Acer monitors. Is yours an Acer?

Well, doesn't the computer reboot at start up? It's been turned off and on a few times since if that's what you mean.

We have Windows 7 on this computer. The computer is brand new-- Fry's just replaced our last computer with this one like 2 weeks ago, but the monitor is probably 4 years old or so. When we first got things set up it was the squatty resolution, but then my son did something and got the one I like.... then the other day I get on my computer and it's back to the squatty one. It keeps defaulting to 1280x1024 and when I try to move it to the bigger numbers it says "Input Not Supported"

Okay, just changed to 1280x960 and rebooted... can't tell if that helped much. It might have....

I swear everytime my kids load a game to my computer it screws something up!

Have you tried rebooting? My computer for some reason altered the screen alignment so I had half a black screen, I fiddled with settings for 1/2 an hour then went crying to my dad who just rebooted it. Says thats always his first thing to try and half the time it works don't know why, he's solved modem, printer...... issues this way x

Haha, Beth. As Ana said, this doesn't just happen. Do tell us what version you are running. You'll need to check the display settings first, and try what Ana said. How old is your computer/monitor?

Uh-oh. Clearly it's a PC problem.

My Mac takes three inches off my waist, adds four inches to my height and magically elevates my bust.

While now I'm on a Mac all the time, I used to use a PC with Windows, and stuff like that doesn't just happen. Anyway, what version of Windows are you running?

Without trying to be too technical about it, B says to try the largest numbers in the list of options they give you first and see if that fixes the problem.

I realize this is OT, but if anyone wants to look long and lean on my monitor you might want to chime in.

for some reason my computer changed screen resolution on me and we cannot figure out how to get the resolution we want back. My son claims that "this just happens" periodically with windows. Huh? Of the resolutions I have to choose from, they are all too wide. I am confident that none of you shrunk 5 inches in height or gained around the midsection overnight....

Any advice?
