The knit top does look less than perfect at the back. There is a bit of a wave to the seam. The belt disguises it nicely. I am currently altering a cardigan (by hand so it’s taking forever). Just gorgeous.<br /> If I may suggest a trick for shortening knits (it looks like you may have done it this way, so, this is for anyone interested), if the item has a ribbed hem, keep that part, take out the amount you want to shorten by folding it from where the ribbing starts (from wrong side of the garment) then sew carefully so the stitches are aligned with the top of the ribbed hem, then cut and do a zigzag to prevent from unraveling. This will prevent the curls and unraveling. I do this with some knitted sweaters that are longer than I like.<br /> If there is no ribbed hem, then I suggest you sew a zig zag stitch where you want to cut it, then cut just below that stitching, fold and sew. I normally hem by hand. I put the seam right at the top of the ribbed area to conceal it. The front came out great but the back came out more wavy. The problems started when I cut off the excess fabric and hemmed the raw edges. I’ve since read that shortening and hemming knitwear is one of the black arts. You really need an over locker or a cover stitcher and (in my case) some sewing skills. I’ve never even stretch stitched before! I think a dressmaker who has the right tools could do it and do it right. </p>
