Granted, I will jump 20 feet in the air just like everyone else if one startles me, but generally I like to watch them. When I lived in New Mexico we had all kinds of interesting spiders, including tarantulas in the wild. I only saw one once, though.</p> <p>People will think I am totally weird but I had a "pet" spider until a few days ago. It was just a common garden spider that built a web in my kitchen window, so I left it there and observed it and its interesting webs for months. She's very low maintence.</p> <p>Joy, I don't know if DD will freak if Sally eats Sylvester. She's more emotionally vested in Sally, because she has had her for three years. She really likes her (and princesses, and glitter, and tulle, go figure). If the *reverse* happens I expect a major trauma.</p> <p>Tracina, that is very true. Fastest way to kill a hairy spider is to drop it. Slowest way is to deprive it of water so it seizes up. She also now has a companion, Sylvester. It seems if girl tarantulas can't get a little spider lovin' they get peaky. It also seems that they often eat their beaus afterwards.</p> <p>Can you feel my joy at now having TWO pink-toed tarantulas in my house? It's only slightly tempered by the fact that one of them may end up as hors d'ouvres. That's because if Sally does get busy, my daughter is intent on "keeping ALL the babies!"</p> <p>Ay yi. </p>
