As you could have guessed I will watch this post for the ideas!
For my lessons slightly fluid tops which do not need to be tucked in are ideal. They also should be lightweight as dancing is a pretty hot activity
I also prefer sleeveless tops for that so this is what I am looking for. I put a topper on until I start dancing and then I am warm enough for sleeveless top!
Peri, please let me know when you find what works for you!

Peri I was thinking of ballet or modern dance. I don't know anything about ballroom dancing although it looks like fun. Yogis (that would be me) and ballet dancers wear very tight clothing. Some of the warm up clothing is looser and more fluid.

Yep, I thought so Peri. I know what you mean about the arms, but it doesn't bother me much - I dance Standard so my arms are in fixed position all the time. The middle top might be a good bet.

Another idea, which you might love or hate: what about a blousy body-suit (attaching links to real dance ones) worn wide trousers wide wide waist bands? Such trousers have a great belly camouflaging ability.

http://www.danceshopper.com/da.....ss-Body-B2
http://www.nyandcompany.com/ny......VJeiLv9UA
http://www.nyandcompany.com/ny.....it-/A-prod

Also, links to some *fluid* real dance tops, mainly for ideas:
http://www.danceshopper.com/da.....e-Dress-D3
http://www.danceshopper.com/da.....nce-Top-T5
http://www.danceshopper.com/da.....nce_Top_T2
http://www.danceshopper.com/da....._Top_E1596

I know Tanya, he'd probably be happier if I wore short and fitted, but I wouldn't be! I've become a little too self conscious lately. Meno-pot belly, boo! I do like the middle one, I may give that a try. It would either camo the apple or highlight it, one or the other! You know what I mean about the arms, don't you? How do you solve that? Or just wear sleeveless?

Thanks StyleFan, I don't know much about yoga clothes but I may check that out. I do ballroom, mostly Smooth.

Hmm, I was going to recommend the real dance stuff from dance sites, but those are fitted. My coaches would have a fit if I showed up in a fluid top, they like to see what every muscle is doing, especially in the back/torso area. So all of my old bodycon/tailored knitted tops have been re-purposed for dancing. But that doesn't really help you, I know... And tunic length would totally be wrong for me as well, they are mostly shorter/hip bone length.

Anyway, I can not judge the underarm depth, but from purely esthetic side, would something like these AT work?

Peri what type of dancing are you doing? A lot of dancers I know buy their clothes from the same places as the Yogis. Have you looked on the Yoga websites? There are some tops that are tunic length. I got some last year from Lole (Canadian). I saw some others that were beautiful but I don't remember the name. I usually wear tops that go to my high hips. Tunics would get in my way.

I like to dress a little for lessons. Not to the level of a party or performance, just a top that looks "dance".

In my new love for fluid/ oversized tunics I purged all my more fitted things, which were worn out anyway and shorter than I currently like. But now I realize I don't have much in my dance capsule, particularly for cooler weather. Sleeveless is too cool and regular winter wear is a lot too hot once I get going.

And dancers will know what I mean...so many things just don't work when your arms are raised in dance frame. Either the shoulders bunch up and the coach fusses cause he can't see your frame, or even worse, the whole top rides up and you end up tugging on it at every opportunity. I have some dolman sleeve tunics that do fine in the arms but then the body of the top drapes down from about halfway between elbow and shoulder and I look 3 feet wide and the coach fusses cause he can't see my posture.

So, what I'm looking for is light weight elbow or bracelet sleeves with enough underarm depth that I can raise my arm without the top going with it. Not body con, I can't take that anymore...fluid, just not huge, and tunic length or just a smidge shorter. And, oh yeah, I don't like those weird fitted things that show up on dance wear websites. I just want normal street wear, just pretty enough to have a dance feel to them.

PICKY MUCH?!

Now I think I should erase this whole post. I was just hoping some of you have bought some things recently and could share your finds. I don't really know how to tell by looking which tops would cooperate with dance frame!
