Thank you so much - for the links and for the advice from the pro. Advice is especially invaluable as we are such a beginners in ballroom dancing - just had our first 4 lessons. Can I also ask which shoes do you use: special dancing shoes or regular ones? I am using my Fidji pumps (see attached picture). They are very comfortable and stay on my feet securely and the sole is &nbsp;slick enough for dancing. I want to dye them platinum though for more dressier look.<br />I am so relieved &nbsp;that you consider a jumpsuit for this occasions too - I am really drawn to that lace top one I tried on and the price is affordable too. As you&nbsp; have already figured out, the main thing is that you have to be able to move in your skirt and take a big step.&nbsp; So it should be either fairly full, or stretchy, or ideally both.&nbsp; I am personally a fan of matte jersey as it holds beautifully through the dancing, and is much easier to clean&nbsp; that fancy woven materials.&nbsp; Also you are spot on about sleeveless.&nbsp; Also, another thing you have to be watchful for is the length of the skirt if it is a long dress.&nbsp; This is one of those cases where PPL-type rules need to be broken.&nbsp; ideally, you should try on the dress with your dance shoes and move a little it in, especially back.&nbsp; If the dress is too long there is a big danger, when stepping back to step on the dress which may result in falls and other unpleasantness.&nbsp; It happened to me once, and quite a few other dancers I know.&nbsp; So ankle length tends to be best.</p> <p>From all the dresses you linked to, I like the first, red one, the best by far.&nbsp; I do not think it is over the top at all, and I looks like it is stretchy.&nbsp; I never have occasions I need to really dress up for - I wish I would! I never shop even for a cocktail dress leave alone a gown because there is nowhere I can wear it. So when Angie had a post on shopping for a special occasion before you have it because you never know when you need it and need to be prepared did not ignite me into action: I thought that this would never happen to me!<br />However this year my hubby and I joined a ballroom dance club because we want to learn how to dance properly and because it is so much fun to do things together. We have lessons once a week and dance practices twice a week. They are pretty casual but I am glad o have an opportunity to wear my dresses and skirts to them because it is much more fun to dance in a skirt especially when it twirls.<br />Then there are social dances once a month. We have already been to one and dress code is pretty much a cocktail affair - no jeans. I have some dresses and skirts I can wear to them for now (of course would not mind to add to my dress capsule but I am OK for now).<br />Here is the problem: there is a big Gala like dance at Christmas time and we were told it is really dressy: half of the guys wear tuxes and majority of ladies are in long gowns. Long gown! How does is appeal to my dressy nature! I have never had one (except my wedding dress) &nbsp;but always wanted to have an occasion to wear it - and now I have! Of course I won't be ostracized if I wear a cocktail dress but what fun is in that, right?<br />So I went to do some gown shopping last Saturday - a VERY new activity for me.
