Thanks you very much everyone once again. You make me blush! Nicole, I assume you mean that Zara jacket I got few months ago. It is actually inky blue, but I'll try to see how it goes over the top.

Becs, you are so sweet. I got pretty interested in revamping my wardrobe the last couple of years, but I think that last 6 months (time that I've been on this forum) has made all the difference. Everyone here is incredibly nice and knowledgeable, and very helpful as well. So posting photos here, reading all the Angie's blogs from while back and a bit of trial and error is what helped me. And also keeping an open mind to trying stuff I would never otherwise.

Here are some general guidelines:

1. First, do you know what your body type is? If yes, please read all Angie's blog post on that body type. If not, you can post a photo in fitted jeans and tee, arms down by the side and we can help you determine it. You could be in between, that it is be one type with tendencies towards the other. It also matters if you are short or long ( or normal) waisted.

2. Have you recently been professionally fitted for a bra by a good place like Nordstrom (not VS)? It makes all the difference in the world. Even though you think you know what size you are, more often than note it turns out not to be true. It happened to me too.

3. The right lengths of garments: again, Angie has bunch of posts on these topics. Ti summarize, your pants should almost touch the ground ( that means you won't be able to wear the same pair with both flats and heels unless they are skinnies), there is a skirt length that's best for you, usually somewhere around the knee( photos help again). Tops for pants need to be longer and for skirts shorter. so you won't be able to wear the same one with both, unless it's a layering piece like a cardi.

4. Colors - something along the seasonal analysis helps, although it's not to be completely trusted. But you can google it and find out. Based on the colors of your skin, hair and eyes, you could suit more cool or more warm colors, stronger or lighter and so on. With this trying is indeed the key. And there a lot of colors that can be worn (even if you don't think so) if combined right with the others.

5. Style - what kind of thinks to you prefer - romantic, trendy, boho, classic etc. This is just a guideline, not need to put yourself in pone category, more to steer you in the right direction.

6. Level of dressiness and lifestyle - as a graduate student , you will probably switch back and forth between nice casual and smart casual. Again, Angie has tons of posts on this topic!

I think that this is more than enough for beginning. Please do not hesitate to post a tons of more specific questions, and I'm sure everyone here would love to help.

Tanya: Since you always seem to pick great things in your outfits (posted on photobucket), I was wondering how long it took you to consistantly start picking items that worked well on you? I am trying to pinpoint certain cuts and colors that look best on me, but it can be really difficult. Is it basically just a try it on and see if it works kind of thing for you, or do you have any other tips you can offer? Thanks!

Everything looks fantastic on you Tanya. I love the lace top--so romantic. Remember that striking waist cinching jacket you bought about a month ago? Was that jacket black? I'd love to see the lace top and black jacket together, with a pop of color from the cami under.

You have fantastic taste and I can nearly guarantee I will always love what you pick. I like everything you selected very much, but love the Tartine cardi on you. That's a killer piece and I don't think you'll regret the bold color.

Thank you all so much!

I think I'll keep them all I'll be brave and stick with the Tartine cardi in this color. The argyle turtleneck should work with my denim and some other fall skirts.
Ana, you are right about me having something similar: it's a SS cashmere sweater in charcoal& cream that it's much longer so it works for pants. In general I like my argyles to have a grey background, and try to find them so that the pattern is in different colors and the sweaters have different cuts.

The lace top is a tough one. For some reason I'm really attached to it. I was planning to wear it mostly under cardis &jackets, with just a bit of lace peeking out at the collar, so it should work for that. I might wear it on it's own for going out, but that rarely happens.

Yay Tanya! You had a fab day at the mall. Here we go:

o	Lace top gets an 7. I think you can do better.
o	Argyle pullover gets a 10 if you wear it over a skirt. It’s not right over pants, but perfect for a skirt! Colours are beautiful.
o	Purple cardi is gorgeous. It scores 9.
o	Tartine cardi gets 9.5. Looks fab!

The Express black lace top is pretty and would look interesting under a jacket (the purple peplum jacket?) or the right cardigan. I even don't mind the white underneath.

I like the argyle sweater a lot--do you already have something very similar to this though? If not, then it's a keeper, very Tanya.

I really like the eggplant sweater. It's blousy, but still flattering and tailored. Very interesting. I could think of a ton of ways to wear this.

As far as the Tartine cardi goes, I personally wear almost all colors year round, I just change what I wear with them, and the materials change. I have a bright coral sweater vest that I wear sleeveless over a cami or over a ruffly blouse in the spring and summer, and over a structured button up in fall/early winter. I find it is a nice bright pick me up when the weather outside is grey and nasty. So I don't see your Tartine cardi as being a strictly spring sweater. It's a featherweight merino, so I would think you could wear it into September (maybe even October) in Boston, and then pull it out again in the spring and get a lot of wear out of it then, too. But it's up to you. If it bothers you and you think you won't wear it that often because you feel like the color isn't appropriate, then I'd take it back and get brown.

Thanks Shiny! The Tartine cardigan is from their new fall collection and was not on sale. I wasn't originally sure which color to get anyway, I have a whole post on that. I am right now trying to decide if I want to keep it in this color or exchange it for brown - that would certainly be more fall appropriate.

I am sorry to hear about your mall experience. I'll keep my eyes open for your post on that.

I had a frustrating mall experience yesterday; I shoulda hit the mall that has H&M - looks like you had better luck! I'll post separately about that though.

I love 1, 2 and 3. Esp #3. I will have to get to H&M and try that one on myself.

#4 I'm not so sure about. Maybe it is the color - looks more spring/summer than fall - but perhaps that is your intention, and you took advantage of the summer sales? I would also like to see this with a blouse underneath instead of a cami.

Thank you for the comments Joy! I actually do not intend to wear the lace turtleneck over white cami, this was just what I happened to wear when i was talking the photos. What I have on my mind is black, grey or dark purple as you suggest.

Tanya, all your choices look fab on you. I give the J Crew Tartine cardigan a 10. although it's hard to see how the true color looks with your coloring.
The eggplant sweater jacket, a 9, looks wonderful for chilly days. I like the collar.
The H&M argyle cotton SS turtleneck outfit is another 10, very cute.
You can certainly wear the lace top well. I'm not sold on wearing it over white. I think I'd rather see it over a beige or a darker color like eggplant. Please consider that it's not a look my eye is used to.

I went to the mall this afternoon, mainly to de-stress, but also to look at the new fall stuff. I saw that ATL purple patent tote on person, and it is beautiful - it certainly goes on my to get list. Same for the BR purple ombre necklace. And I was seriously swooning over Benetton's early fall collection - so many pretty purples and greys. I am interested in about ten items from them.Of course, I couldn't help but leave with a few things from the mall, but I tried to stick to smaller purchases.

Here they are, and please use CRS so that I can figure out if they are keepers. I posted the Tartine cardigan both here and on it's thread, so please feel free to ignore it if you already commented on it there.

1. Black lace Express turtleneck - here worn over white cami.

http://s300.photobucket.com/al.....CN3415.jpg

2. H&M argyle cotton SS turtleneck

http://s300.photobucket.com/al.....CN3418.jpg

3. H&M eggplant sweater jacket

http://s300.photobucket.com/al.....CN3421.jpg

4. J Crew Tartine cardigan in Rhubarb(?). The second photo of it on it's own shows the color accurately.

http://s300.photobucket.com/al.....CN3423.jpg
