Here's where a tape measure can really help. . .If you measure the distance from the bottom of your heel to the back of your knee, wherever you'd like your boots to hit, that's your shaft length. If you measure the circumference of the widest part of your calf, that's your calf circumference.

Zappos and Nordstrom's both give shaft and circumference measurements on their websites. Having both of those measurements will let you weed out the boots that aren't going to work--you can save yourself a lot of time and effort that way.

This month's Lucky Magazine featured boots that are designed to hit just above the knee--no "pirate looking" ones among them. Over-the-knee boots usually have a 19-20" shaft, which may give you the height you're looking for. I don't have the issue at hand, but it shouldn't be difficult to find. Lucky usually features a wide range of price points, too, so it's not hard to find something within your budget.

I should think you should have no problem with this right now. Have you been shopping yet? I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum at 5'0" and I'm having very bad luck - all the boots are so high I can't even bend my knee. I need no more than 13 inch height - and my calves are narrow, so only about 13 inch shaft. I've been thinking I'm glad I stocked up on boots a few years back, when it was easier. Everything seems so TALL these days!

What I'd do is take a pair of boots you like, and measure them. Then go to shopstyle.com and google with that length in mind. It sometimes works. Also google "Tall" boots and "Extended Calf."

Good luck!

I'm brand new to this blog but have high hopes for great advice! I'm tall - 5'10", normal body type - just slightly larger than average calves. Problem? Where do I find knee-high boots that are actually KNEE HIGH? It seems they aren't made for people over 5'7" so they hit me at the widest part of my calf. Where can I find an affordable (under $200) leather boot, 3" heel ideal (I love my heels) that actually reaches my knee? Not a fan of the fold-over pirate style. Too swashbuckler for me.
