What a nice collection you have. My fave combo's are #8 and 13. I have lots of tall boots some over 20 years old , if I find a pair that works with my thin calves I buy and keep. I found this thread very interesting as I discovered why I don't tend to wear mine with my skirts, it's because the skirts are too long and I never seem to have the right top!
I think that the tan OTK boots would look great with a column of neutrals and creams with a fabulous scarf . I'm definitely on the look out for some nice casual dresses so I can wear mine this year with something other than skinny jeans ! Keep us posted .

I really love tall boots with midi dress or skirt and I’ve somehow acquired about 5 midi dresses this year that I plan to wear exactly like your Pinterest/ inspiration pics. Now is the season here in Michigan, too! Such a terrific throwback to the 80’s… for me maybe into 1990’s too! Imma put those ensembles together next week

I love your boots collection! I have one pair of tall boots that I plan to wear with skirts and dresses--should the weather ever cool off--and I wear my harness boots with longer skirts and dresses, as well as loose cropped pants. I love your streetstyle inspiration pics! Wear those boots, I say ;)!

Angie, I was thinking of this dress with cowboy boots too — jackets layer over it well. They’re a little trickier with the COS dress, so I wonder if a long sleeved layer under that dress would work for fall. I’ll experiment, thanks!

Glad I posted this thread — the exercise helped me take stock and determine that I did want to keep the Seychelles boots and let go of the old Fryes.

You have a KILLER tall boot collection, Janet!

If you can store them and they are comfortable - I vote keep all of them, except pass on the first pair. Absolutely keep all the cowboy boots!

Good observations, all!

Yes, these are loose and slouchy at the ankle. My black pairs are more fitted. The Seychelles do not fit over jeans so they can only be worn with skirts or dresses — I’ve really let all my winter dresses go, and don’t have a lot of skirts anymore either! I’m keeping an eye out for a good midi dress that appeals to me and works for casual wear, but styles this year are so foofy with puffs and tiers, and colors are not my palette. Still, I do agree there is some potential with these skirts. I’ve come to realize that most of my skirts are actually maxis that on me are more like midaxis, LOL. I’m currently having my Peruvian Connection skirt shortened about three inches because it’s more maxi and it’s just too much fabric — I think it will be much more wearable then.

If anyone has a good lead on long-sleeves midi dresses that would suit my style and would work nicely with tall boots, I welcome suggestions! I’ve been looking at skirt/dress + boot combinations for inspiration.

I never stopped wearing my tall boots with skirts in winter!
I have tall boots that I like with skirts, because the ankles are fitted and don't have clutter. Then I have looser ones I can tuck pants in.
Yours look loose at the ankle so better with pants I think.

I never stopped wearing tall classic flat riding boots. A favourite style ever since the '70s. My only present pair is black. I would be interested in additional pairs in burgundy, white, grey, navy, and other cool colours.

I wear tall riding boots with midi skirts and dresses, with corduroy capris and with slim straight jeans (which I either tuck into the boots or just roll and wear over the boots).

My favourite pics here are #13 and #15.

Another vote for the Seychelles boots which you have styled successfully.
I’m not a fan of the Frye’s - as you noted they are uneven - that would drive me crazy!
I agree with Brooklyn’s comment that the lighter colours can be great for transitional weather.

I find a lighter colour in tall boots useful in transitional weather in Spring and Autumn, when black or burgundy tall boots can feel a little heavy.

I prefer a tall boot with a true midi (not midaxi) skirt, or with a midaxi skirt that has some asymmetry, so that the length of the boot shows. So my favourite combination is the second pair with the plaid tulle skirt. I think you could also try them with your black asymmetric skirt that you are wearing on your other post.

For longer midaxi skirts I prefer a shorter boot (like a combat boot). The cowboy boots might work too.

I think the cowboy boots would work nicely with a slightly longer (midaxi) skirt in an A-line shape with a handkerchief hem, so that you have flashes of leg showing.

You have a great collection of boots! I like the Seychelles and they seem pretty versatile...I'd keep making outfits until you start feeling more comfortable about the colour. And if you just can't make yourself wear them in this colour, why not try to dye them? Or just find yourself a darker pair and let these go.

The suede skirt is really cool, but I agree it would be better longer.

Haha I am planning to…just keep wearing my tall boots as I’ve been doing for the last who knows how long! (Jeans tucked into tall boots is just too dang practical for Seattle winters.)

I vote pass along the Frye boots. You have a nice capsule of tall boots, there is no need to force a pair to work.

I especially love the new plaid tulle skirt with the boots! Somehow with boots that have a bit of slouch to them showing a bit more leg with works best to my eye. With midaxi skirts, I prefer a really sleek fit at the ankle. But that’s just me and obviously I’m not up on the latest stylings (see first sentence of post).

What about the plaid skirt with the colorblock boots?

Thanks for the input! This is helping. Seems as though there is not a ton of enthusiasm for the Frye boots, which echos my own feelings. I would like to make the Seychelles work. I know that dyeing suede is an iffy proposition, so it’s probably best if I can work with their current color — it is not a terribly warm tone, and it does seem to pick up neutral shades in patterned items I have, so I’m inclined to keep those boots and see what I can do with them. It occurs to me to see if some of my patterned scarves and tops have this neutral in the mix as well.

I really like the 2nd pair (Seychelles), they seem totally current, and love all the ways you styled them (especially with the blue skirt). Not a big fan of the first pair, but can't put my finger on exactly why. Your other tall boots are all great, as well.

I have never stopped wearing tall boots - especially the slimmer ones with skirts/dresses, but I am especially inspired this season to revive some of the other older ones - like the flat riding ones with skirts/dresses (as opposed to the usual skinny jeans). I have just treated myself to a brand new pair of tall burgundy boots as a birthday present.

I finally parted with my tall boots that Angie always said were too wide around the calves - so no tall boots at the moment. There is nothing dated about the second pair of boots, and they look luxurious. Great with the longer skirts.

I have thoughts! First of all, I love the look of black with brown/tan/cognac leather. Of the first two pairs, I am "feeling" the Seychelles a bit more, and it sounds like they are more comfortable anyhow. Love them with the blues especially and could see them with a black midi skirt of dress.
Burgundy slouchy looks on trend, tall black classic and Sorels practical for winter? I would keep them all if they are comfortable.
Tall lace ups - love! Cowboy boots - keep if comfortable, especially the old and broken in pairs!
Patchwork skirt - I wonder if there is some tailoring that could be down to lengthen it because I love it but I am with you that longer would be better.
You didn't expect a lot of purging suggestions from me I hope .

Today I switched out my sandals with my tall boots in my closet (everything else stays visible year round). I’ve been thinking about reviving my few pairs of old tall boots, as well as my cowboy boots.

The last time tall boots were trending, it seemed to be all about tucking skinnies into those boots and wearing long tops and sweaters over it all. I do still have some straight leg jeans that will tuck into tall boots, but I’m also interested in perhaps giving some of my skirts some play this fall and winter. I love the look of a great long sleeved midi dress with tall boots, but I have no casual winter dresses at all anymore. I haven’t seen any that appeal to me in the last couple of years, and this year doesn’t look terribly encouraging either, so for now I’m thinking of midi skirt with tall boot ensembles.

In the process, I’ve pulled two pairs of tall boots out of my holding zone:

Pics 1-4 A very old (pre YLF) pair of slouchy harness Fryes in a taupe color that is not the easiest to work with in my black-dominant wardrobe. I used to wear them over skinnies with a black and taupe top a million years ago, but I’m not sure I’m feeling them with skirts. I have no other taupe in my wardrobe except for in prints. Slight tangent — I’m trying the boots on here with another very, very old piece that has spent years in my holding zone. I adore this suede patchwork skirt, but I’m afraid it’s a little short for my current preferences. I was a size smaller when I wore it, so it sat lower on my hips and gave me a little more length. I’m not so sure the proportions just are right on me now, unless I lose ten pounds again. I should try this skirt on with black tall boots or black booties and black opaque tights, which is how I used to wear it. OK, back to the Frye boots — I lost energy to try these boots on with any other skirts for now, but I wanted to show them and see if you all had any thoughts. They are ok, comfort-wise, not amazing, and they’ve always sat a little crooked on me — one slouches more than the other. I haven’t worn them in years and wonder if I should sell them or keep and try to work with them.

Pics 5-13 Then there is this pair of tan suede OTK Seychelles boots — I love the fit and they are super comfortable, but the color is a bit out of my norm. They just barely hit the top of my knee so I would always cover the tops of them. I’m trying them here with my patterned skirts that seem the most likely to “go” with them. Do these seem to work at all for me? I wish they were black, then I’d probably wear them a lot more. But is that just my comfort zone talking?

Pics 14-15 My other tall boots — burgundy RATE suede Borns, black leather and neoprene Weitzmans, and color-blocked black and grey Sorels, plus a pair of black lace up Kelsi Dagger that would be OTK on most people but come up to the bottom of my kneecaps, LOL.

Pics 16-18 My cowboy boots — some are very old and so broken in I would be reluctant to let them go. The ones in 16 are mid calf and the other are shorter, which makes them a little harder for me to style, but they have been worn under bootcuts in the past. The last pair has been living a hard life at the ranch, LOL. Any suggestions for fresh styling of these?

Are you all planning on reviving tall boots this year after years of wearing short booties? How are you styling them? Are you buying new styles?
