The ones that come with the shoes are removable. I wash those more frequently than the shoes. So far they are holding up well. My oldest pair of Rothy’s are just over a year old. Most ballet flats are so painful that I cannot walk more than a couple of steps in them. I've never owned a pair in my life. Lo and behold, I was gifted a pair of Rothys recently ("The Flat" style; white, grey and black camo pattern) and...they are great!  The size 8 "Flat" style fit my 7.5/8 feet very well with *no pain* in the toe area. The back of one rubbed a bit, but after 3 days of full time wear (for reasons I won't go into), it no longer rubs. The camo pattern goes with my usual bottoms (black ponte, white jeans, dark jeans). The shoes are adorable and disguise my distressingly unattractive bunions. I subsequently purchased "The Point" in camo red. They are adorable and surprisingly versatile. I sized up to an 8.5 and they are comfortable and stay on my feet (so: 8 in The Flat and 8.5 in The Point). The Rothys don't feel very supportive (I think an insole would help--I just have the insole that came with the shoes), but somehow my feet (and back) just don't hurt, and I've walked all over the place (no hills). Sneakers and booties are more padded and more comfortable.  So, thumbs up (way up) from me. When you buy a pair, they give you a code. Mine is ADHFQ2W. I think if you use that, you save $20 and they give a discount off my next pair (if I buy another). They’re my work-with-everything shoes. I put heel cups under the insoles that came with them to avoid rubbing. The shoes work perfectly in low humidity. But when it’s warm and humid, they feel like I’m wearing Saran wrap, so beware. I walk in them all day and my feet are happy. They offer comfort, but not a lot of arch support. Rothy’s are expensive, but then again, most of the shoes I wear are. I like that they are washable. I don’t worry about them getting dirty so I wear them when walking my dogs and while on playground duty. Other shoes I own need to be changed before those activities. If you are on Rothy’s mailing list, you will be notified when they decide to discontinue colors.....those are on sale. They are very comfortable- I walked 5 miles in them in NYC without any problems. They also machine wash really well. I always take a pair travelling- they are very light weight and look great with my dressy pants. I just got back from a surgical conference and saw a ton of the female surgeons wearing them (with pants and dresses). For me, they've been comfortable--they actually have some stretch to them--although some might consider them "pinchy." You'd probably be safe with a loafer or more rounded toe. Mostly, I wear them for running around in town, but I did wear them for a day of sightseeing in San Francisco and felt fine. They wash up nicely as advertised, which is pretty amazing. I agree that they're too expensive, but if you sleuth around on the internet you might be able to find a discount code for 20%. Can anyone shed light on their comfort or durability? Are they worth US$165? I'm assuming I'd need to add an insole (since they include the option for a pair at check-out).
