I find short hair VERY easy. It's that "longer short hair" - like a bob that takes forever to style.

I love the look of photo three on you. Super super cute. My hair has been every length, from hip length (think, Crystal Gayle) to super pixie short. Both were insanely easy for me to maintain. When my hair is super short and sculpted, I did need to get it trimmed back into shape about every 4 to 5 weeks, which I didn't mind. Now my hair is a chin-length bob and I'm not really liking it. I saw a picture taken of me last weekend and realized I need to cut it off again.

I had a short pixie once and many versions of bobs, my most recent being the inverted bob. I enjoyed all of them for awhile, but then I start to miss my long hair. I most often wear it shoulder-length or longer. Right now about bra strap length. I tend to be pretty low maintenance with hair, usually only getting to the salon for trims every 3-4 months. But I don't color it, and I only heat-style 2-3 times a week so it stays very healthy.

There are so many great short hairstyles on this site that make me wonder if I should go shorter again. But knowing myself, I know I won't get it trimmed often enough and I'll have all the painful growing out stages to go through.

Your cut looks great, and you could definitely rock a shorter cut as well. Like many of the ladies here said, it may take more frequent salon visits, but it might be a fun change!

I have very short, thick, straight hair. I have it cut and coloured about every five weeks. I usually trim my bangs once or twice between cuts even though my salon offers this service for free. I just use a pair of manicure scissors. It's important to find a stylist who is expert in cutting short hair as it is unforgiving; every flaw will show.

I've had everything from a pixie to mid-length and now it's below my shoulders. My experience is that having a pixie or very short hair is easy to style, but needs regular, frequent trims to stay looking stylish and not mushroom-y or frumpy. It's much more noticeable when a short haircut needs some attention vs. longer hair. So, low-maintenance on a day-to-day basis, but higher-maintenance in terms of frequency of appointments.

I keep mine short, but it grows fast. I get it cut every 3 weeks. It's easy otherwise. No fuss, no hair dryer, no curling iron. Just a towel dry, some anti frizz gel and I'm on my way.

Some great hair on this site.

As a gal who has always had short hair, I love it. Regular trims are a must, every 4-6 weeks. Finding the right products that work with your hair and a great stylist with whom you have a good working relationship is so important. I love how quick and easy it is to style my short hair.

I am in the process of trying to grow it out into a short, messy bob. That is the worst part about short hair. Growing it out takes forever, even just a few inches! That being said, I will never have long hair. In fact, I'm wavering already! Good luck!

I find short hair by far the easiest. Mine's basically straight but with some wave, and very thick. I need to get it cut every 5 to 7 weeks. Ideally 5, unless I am trying to grow it into a slightly different style.
It takes no time at all to style each day; I prefer to spend the time all at once in the stylist's chair for the ease of every day -- sort of what Elizabeth P described. It's essentially wash and wear for me.

No good hair advice here but I love #3! Is it high upkeep for you?
I usually think of trying to see, does some of the extra length help with wavy hair because the weight helps with control--so sometimes there is a dreaded not long enough, not short enough length, BUT it probably boils down to the actual cut.
Do you have a hair stylist who seems to give good advice and "gets" your hair ?

My hair is very thick and just slightly wavy, but it doesn't go frizzy. When mine was in a pixie, it was very simple, easy. Like Elizabeth P described. But, then, I'm the kind of person who doesn't spend much time on my hair no matter how long it is.

Well, I've had everything from a pixie to shoulder length and every length in-between in the last 5 years. The mid lengths were pretty enough, but took more time than I was interested in spending on blowdrying and flat-ironing. Yes, I could usually go two days between washes, but even those days needed some touch ups. At my current length. it's far quicker and makes the statement I want from my hair. I do trim it myself (to the chagrin of my stylist) - but with wavy/thick hair as you describe yours, that might not be such a great idea. I start trimming (the sideburns, for lack of a better word, and sometimes the bangs) at about the 10 day mark. I usually have to go in for a quick trim at the nape of my neck at the 2 week mark, and have it cut fully every 4-5 weeks. I could obviously go much longer between cuts when my hair was your current length. I don't have your kind of hair - so none of what i said may apply anyways - lol!

First of all, your hair looks great at all of those lengths!

I personally hated having my hair short after a while, when I had it in a pixie-ish length. It was a long time ago, but my hair grows fast, and I like you, I have wavy/curly hair that tends to frizz. It definitely got unruly and puffy as it grew out from a short cut, and it seemed to grow out in no time. I already have to go to the salon every two months for trims and color touchups, even with longer hair (especially with the asymmetrical thing I have going on now). My hair is now thinner and more manageable than it was back when I had very short hair, so it might work better now than it did back then... but it just doesn't feel like my style anymore. Around here, it seems like every woman my age has either a pixie cut or a chin length bob, so I rebel against either of those styles!

I never say never, but I'm not tempted to get a pixie ever again, at this point in my life.

I have wavy hair and the pixie is very easy, as long as it's short enough so most of the curl gets lost. Even so, my hair needs water every morning to look alright. But I don't mind, it doesn't take much time and I love how it looks. My longer hair never looked like I had a cut, I just had long hair. When the pixie gets longer it's a mess though, it really needs to be short and I need frequent cuts. I've gone five or six weeks in between appointments, but I realised recently that's actually too long. Every four weeks would be better. I don't mind frequent cuts though, I like my hairstylist and I only pay 20 € each time.

I agree with Elizabeth - mid length hair is a nightmare for me. Takes forever to style, and it must be styled with my not exactly straight but not really wavy texture. With my pixie cut - which is very short on the sides and back with a long section on the front of one side - I can be lazy and just put some styling crème in and pin the long section down and just let air dry or I can blow dry in a few minutes and flat iron the longer section. I have it cut every 5 weeks. This is the photo I bring to my stylist.

If you are willing to go as short as a pixie, even a long pixie, I think you might be surprised. My hair was a pita at mid lengths, it's got just enough wave to look icky, not enough to look wavy. So it was blowdrying and styling (flat iron) every time I washed it, pony tail when I didn't.

But now.... freedom! I wash it, air dry it, put in some styling paste, finger style it, and that's it for the day. I cannot believe how easy it is. My hair grows fast too, so I do need a trim every 6-8 weeks, but I don't mind that at all.

I am sorry to bug you guys again about hair!

I recently went from long to medium and am wanting to go shorter. I have never had very short hair.

Photo 1: me today, photo 2: me before cut, photo 3: me right after cut

My hair grows fast. I am worried about keeping it cut short. Does any one with a long pixie or short bob trim their own hair? What is your styling routine?

My hair is medium thickness and wavy/frizzy. I would love wash and go hair but I am afraid it's a pipe dream. Can anyone recommend a cut that will be low maintenance for me?
