The jacket looks hunter green on my screen, not olive which is more yellow and drab. I think the color looks beautiful on you but the collar is fussy and I wonder if you would get tired of it soon. Do you own anything with this kind of collar? I've had coats with that feature and it got old quickly to me.

Being a busty petite as well I have yet to find a leather jacket that fits. And you are right, no zippers on the sleeves makes it possible to hem whereas most leather jackets have zipped sleeves which rules them out immediately, no matter how well the rest of the jacket fits. I love the idea of a non-black neutral, makes it very versatile. Don't settle for anything less than perfect in your eyes.

The fit of this jacket is perfect on you and the color too is flattering, but I personally wouldn't be able to justify the purchase because of the color's limitations! Olive is outdoorsy and in my eye wouldn't compliment feminine dresses, skirts and formal wear! Which means it's a huge investment for something I might not wear as often, unless ofcourse you have many such activities! I would probably note the brand, style and size and wait for another similar piece, and then convince myself!

IK, I found that Rick Owens jacket at Saks -- $3050!!!
http://www.saksfifthavenue.com.....ID=jF5_Jq8

Sarah, that isn't a seam that isn't laying down flat; it's a design feature. I think it's a suede panel, laying in another direction (?), so it gives contrast (darker vs lighter suede). I did not even notice this in the store; only realized it when I saw the pics, and viewed it on web sites. I kind of like that feature; adds interest.

I can't go back to the store today because the car is in the shop. I have no idea when it'll be back, and there's no public transportation that will get me back to the store. So I have time to cool on this. The shop has not called me yet about what's wrong with the car -- which could indicate bad news, and this whole decision may wind up being a moot point.

As of this morning, I'm thinking that I probably would NOT like this in black suede. I'm not sure if black leather would work as well either -- part of the attraction is how soft and supple the suede felt to wear. It is a softer look, not shiny... which I think does work nice in olive. And I don't think I'd do leather in navy either; with jeans, that might just be way too much blue for me. I am already feeling like I've overdone it on the navy.

Lyn -- do you think I need a longer jacket? That is a great question to consider. I'd have to see how this works over dresses; I do like a shorter jacket, but this is not quite cropped (on me, at least) either. I like that it shows off the belt. It is same exact length as my white pleather scuba jacket.

April & Rute -- part of the allure for me was that it fit just fine zipped up, all the way up. Because I am chesty, many leather jackets squish the "girls," if they can be zipped up at all. There was no squishing going on here. Reality is, if this were in black, I'd probably NOT like the collar zipped up all the way, as it would be aging against my face. But in green... well, I think it is more forgiving, even zipped all the way up. I spent some time in the store trying it unzipped, zipped a little, zipped a little more, then zipped all the way up. There is a lot of different ways to style the collar. Another plus was the fit in the waist: many similar jackets tend to be too tight in the waist -- tight enough, I am struggling to get the zip started. This one was not.

K - thanks so much for those inspirational photos. You've convinced me that cobalt and olive can go together; that first photo is gorgeous. I already knew it would go with burgundy, which is one of my favorite colors. Red... never considered that (too xmas?). My take away from your photos is that this would work well with a lot of different colors, especially those that are muted/soft, which is the majority in my wardrobe. Question: would it work with silver jewelry? Because I much prefer silver to gold.

I would love to hear what Angie thinks!

I love the colour on you, Shiny, and while I'd have to see it with some outfits to be sure, I think it'd go well with many of the colours in your wardrobe.

I'm not 100% sold on the look of the collar when open all the way and closed all the way, though. It looks overly wide and a tiny bit sloppy to me when open all the way, and bunchy when closed all the way. II've admired the Rick Owens jackets in this style for years and that's what throws me off with them, too. I do love it zipped 3/4 of the way. I'd be interested to hear Angie's thoughts.

The olive is a great color on you, and can be used as a secondary neutral. Look at it this way; everyone and his uncle has a black leather jacket. Olive is unusual without being weird.

I actually like it more than the black on your wish list. It's so more special! My only concern is that very short(waist) length, but if that's what you are looking for, I'd rather go with the green one! So more flattering for your light complexion, and I know it will pick out the greens in your eyes, as DD said.

I bought a green leather swing coat 30 years ago. It cost $250, which probably translates to about $850 in todays $$s. When it somehow got torn in the back at the bottom, I had it cut off to waist length. Yes, I do wear it with black, with purple, with some shades of burgundy, royal blue, navy, really any shade of blue looks good next to it, I think. It looks great in early spring with white. I don't like myself in yellow, but it would look good with that too. Green is very versatile and is just so much more interesting then black.
It was expensive at the time, BUT I loved it and I still do. I don;t think you will ever regret such a purchase.

Olive is so flattering on you, so much more than black which is kinda ho-hum cuz everything comes in black. And so much more practical than cream. The price would deter me, but not the color if I had your coloring and wardrobe. I think you will need to test drive the jacket, however, to see how it plays with mid-tones.

Oh goodness, I'm the wrong person to talk you out of an expensive exquisite leather jacket (witness the cobalt jacket adventure in Boston).

It looks gorgeous on you, and the color is wonderful. It doesn't seem like a brownish-olive green so much as a hunter green in your pics, and I agree it does wonderful things for your eyes.

When I got my budget-busting cobalt jacket, the color was a huge part of what made it so perfect. What's the return policy? Would you consider getting this and seeing how the color works with your wardrobe?

Okay, not to enable, but Yes! Yes! Yes! It would go with all of those colors. Cobalt and olive look great! Navy and olive, great! Purple and olive, great! Really, I struggled with olive for a long time. One day my friend commented that greens are typically a neutral and it totally revamped my thinking. (Just like when she said that tan was really light orange. Well yeah. That's right. Wow that changes things!) Honestly, I think the key to olive is not to wear it with neutrals. You have to have some color in there. Neutral on neutral is occasionally nice, but wear it too often and you are going to be bored to death. If you wear a grey tee with a pair of khaki trousers, boring, right? Olive and grey? Without some color, snoresville. With a red purse? Wow! So, pics below: olive and cobalt, olive and purple, olive and red, olive and burgundy. All fantastic!

BUT don't buy this jacket unless you can feel that color pairing love. Can they hold it for you? I wonder if you will still be in love in a few days. If you are still fantasizing about it, then take in a few tops to try with it. Be ready to be open minded about olive, though. Sometimes adjusting to wearing olive takes training your eye, just like pattern mixing does.

Rachylou, it won't! It zips up high! And still manages to look good, which is a miracle, because I Do Not Do Turtlenecks.

Nice try, though...

That jacket does look really swell on you, like it was made for you. That said, I normally would thumbs-down it, or at least be rather hesitant, simply based on the price tag. (Though I do agree that everyone has their own measure of what's affordable, priced well, etc.)

The caveat in my mind is that you're a petite, and as a fellow petite I can imagine it must be really really really hard to find things that look so good and fit so well.

Therefore, I am on the fence. Helpful, eh?

I like the idea of navy and army/olive greens being your key neutrals instead of black. They go so well with your complexion, and black can be harsh near the face, particularly as we age...

I love it on you and actually love the color. I think it would go with all of those colors you said you have. Also, your DH found a coupon and it seems like he is encouraging you to get it (I wish that would happen to me! lol). If you are a Soft Summer, then black never was your best color--even when younger... You've looked amazing in everything I've seen you in, though. Anyway, I think you look fab in it and should get it if you are comfortable with the price.

(Hows that for enabling???--Una, where are you to help!)
