I really like side zip trousers and think these look very nice on you. I know what you mean about changing things up with a new sillouhette :-)
And I sure don't think you're going backwards, but I'd love to hear Angie's take where the slim line dressier pants fit in - especially since we seem to be entering the trackpant pants era.

Black is notoriously difficult to photograph and show detail on but from what I can tell of these Unfrumped, they look good. I really like the amount of ankle scrunch and the slim fitting, but not skinny, legs.

And FWIW, I wear my slouchy black trousers to work all the time. How you style these will make them completely work appropriate IMHO.

Thanks Thistle--I'm going to work with them a bit and see what I come up with.

AJ--what are you seeing? Too low in the crotch or the bunching in the legs? I am just learning to sort out some of these definitions and how to translate them into the fit of the clothes. If I keep these I might have to have the waist taken up to keep the crotch from dropping down.

Firecracker and Kalli--the feedback is helpful. I may actually like the slits--it is like the option of unzipping the ankle zip on the Leith track pants a bit. I may be using the term "scrunch" when really I mean pooling over the shoe. I guess it is like a teeny bootcut that covers the foot partly but can't go all the way so if there is any extra length in the pants, there is a form of scrunch, but not as much as if they were fitted at the ankle. Not sure what that says about me fashion-wise, but is interesting to contemplate.

There really is no forwards or backwards in fashion. It's just all about personal style as many people have wrote about. So if you are looking for a new silhouette, these may accomplish that for you. It's definitely not slouchy in my eyes and probably the scrunch factor is lost because of the slits that allow the taper to bell out. I look forward to seeing more of your style journey.

Great idea! I can't really see the side slits in the photos, but I think the scrunch would work better and look even more current if you closed up the slits (or had it done by a tailor).

I found these “Hollywood “ side-zip flat-front pants at Talbots. I was amazed that they were full-length with even a bit of scrunch. They have the little ankle side slits.

My work pants goal is to update from the fairly wide trouser leg that most of my pants have. Slimmer but straight trouser & a tapered slouchy are goals but haven’t found those yet.

They’re slim for me, but may be considered “straight”; I think the tapered ankles breathe new life into my flats, plus I can use oxfords; tops all have to be out with these pants, but it is not too hard to remix or add some volume-tops.

My idea is that even though they're not the new "slouchy pants," these are a form of update on what I’ve got for work and is a style that still has some “legs” to it. Unless this is actually going backwards in fashion.

What say you?
