I own one Talbots cardigan. I bought it last year and it is medium weight. I wash it often and have not noticed any fading (I will look again the next time I wear it). I don't feel fab in it though and have never bought another one.

Based on my experience with one purchased from a spring/summer catalog about 3 years ago, I'd have to say no, they don't hold up well. Mine was purged after 1 season. It looked "rough" after the first washing and the placket drew up and I never could get it ironed smooth. Thinking back, I probably should have returned it.

Of course this season's version may be of better quality.

I have several of these sweaters. In winter 2010, I bought two long sleeve cardis. They were a nice medium-heavy cotton and slightly fitted. But, I found after two seasons, they are fading on the seams and edges. I'm no expert in cotton knits so I don't know if that's as long as the color will last at ~ 2 washings per month. I also bought several for summer. These are a lighter-weight cotton. The ones I bought last summer are starting to show some fading on the seams and edges. They're soft and comfy for sure. But I was hoping to get more than two seasons out of them.

I tried one on this fall, to replace my faded red one. But the fabric weight is lighter than last fall, and it doesn't seem heavy enough to wear over a long sleeve blouse. Because of the fading and lightness, I"m hesitant to buy another one. I'd be curious if anyone had knowledge of how long cotton knits last before they start to fade.

I've got my eye on these cardigans in the Talbots new catalog, especially since they come in petite sizes. Does anybody have any experience with these? Do they hold up well?
