Looks like you are sorted Elle:). You won't need your trench. Even if it cools, light layers would be all you need. I'm sitting in 38.6 degree heat at 6.00 pm !!

Depends on where you're going and what you're planning on doing. Used to live in Melbourne. The weather can be highly changeable and have had to put the central heating on in the middle of summer more than once.

in my opinion, too hot for trench, and its heavy for travel, i would take lighter rain jacket (not lined) if at all

I lived in Melbourne for years. I vote nay.
Melbourne weather is really changeable but I never wore my Burberry in summer (it was the same style as yours). I agree with the others layers are key because even if it's cold for part of the day the rest of it could be very hot Have a great trip.

That trench coat is killer. But I vote don't bring it. It's Summer in Oz right now.

As another Australian I have worked in Melbourne from time to time, with a number of visits in January and I would not pack a trench. Rain jacket and a sweater and jeans for cooler weather would be as warm as I would take. It is a shame because your trench is absolutely stunning on you and would be perfect from about April to October.

I was thinking a light rain jacket, too, like Kookaburra. Melbourne weather is notoriously changeable , though the few times I've been there the weather has been fantastic. Enjoy your trip!

If you are going to Melbourne I'd say take it. Three years in a row I went to Melbourne for work in early February ~ two years in a row I had to buy a coat and the third time I learned my lesson and took one lol! You won't need a jacket in sydney and in Brisbane I'm still in singlet tops!
Have a great trip

Hello Elle - I live in Sydney but travel often to Melbourne. The weather there does change and I do have stories of winter weather in the middle of January, when the locals would wear their boots and coats, and I was left shivering (OK, this only ever happened to me once in January!). As a rule, the rain is very warm and the overall humidity means you'd be uncomfortable in a heavy European-style trench coat. I vote Nay. You would do better with one of those light travel rain jackets that fold into a tiny pouch. Basically the way to survive Melbourne's changeable weather is lots of layers such as cardigans and light jackets. It's been a humid summer this year and the humidity does make the heat feel sticky. I've had a look at the forecast and it's generally "showers" which means an umbrella should keep you dry ( as opposed to "rain" when it really buckets down and there is no hope of staying dry in anything - but that's not in the forecast thankfully). Hope this helps and have a wonderful trip!

Hi Elle I am not in Melbourne but it is too hot for a trench right now! You just use an umbrella when it rains as it is humid as well.
Deborah or another Victorian might chime in as a local.
Have fun!

Hi forum folk. I apologize for my long absence. I've had a lot of health issues & don't have the energy to be on here but I'm going to Australia Tuesday & am unsure about taking my Burberry trench. It's double cotton & lined. It's heavier than the Burberry London or Brit ones. It is going to rain 3 times in the next 10 days, two of which I will be there for. I can't see further than that. I will be there another week so I could get more rain. It's handy to wear to the airport but a hassle at the other end when I arrive & in the plane I prefer the blanket and my other layers for warmth & I put it in the overhead bin. I'd worry about having to put it in a bin further away from me because it was very expensive. A Prorsum. Anyway I have traveled with it & will do it again if I think I will wear it in Australia. No point having it otherwise. I barely get to wear it in Los Angeles. I guess my concern is that it will be about 29C 84F the days it is raining & too hot for it. It could be cool or cold & rainy while I'm there though. Melbourne changes like that. What do you do when it's hot & wet? I've lived in LA so long I forget. Just use an umbrella & forget the coat? Yay take Nay leave it at home. The photos are from an England trip in Summer. It is wetter there than Australia but I did wear it a couple of times on my last trip to Oz in Summer.
