Given the situation and how heavy-duty the hooks are, would you be comfortable consulting with an excellent professional tailor to see what they say?? They do exist, and hearing how much adore this dress, I would find one and see what they say.

RobinF: Thanks, I think stitching through the hook would work. Thanks for the tip.

I was thinking along the same lines as Angie. Or maybe a small stitch in each hook to hold it closed?

Thanks for responding. The hooks are big sturdy corset hooks and can’t be bent like a bra hook. And they are sewn into the fold of a piece of fabric that also forms the base of the corset section, so there is a ton of stitching to pick out.

cat2, can you pinch the hooks closed with pliers, keep them that way, and get into the dress with the zipper?

IF I'm understanding correctly.....

Do you have a photo of the dress? I'm having trouble fully visualizing the issue....do you mean they just kept coming unhooked despite the dress still fitting? Are they worn out, maybe? Can they be replaced?

Hi, I need some advice on a tailoring issue I haven’t experienced before. I have a Tory Burch Claire McArdell poplin dress, with a corset inspired design. I have been wearing it without incident for a few years, but when I put it on last night, the front hooks wouldn’t all stay hooked. I can still get into the dress as it has a back zipper, but I am not sure what to do to fix the front hooks. If the seamstress just tacks the front together the hooks will be just hanging there misaligned. Is there another solution? The hooks are big and I don’t they can be replaced without a lot of effort given the really complex construction. Please help, it would crush me to have to give up on her!
